My O? Oooooh - loving your post LL!0

Thank you.
Have a good time tonight. I'm sure you will. They sound a nice bunch, taking the time and trouble to contact you. Sounds like you'll be made very welcome.0 -
I was never any good at languages - something I put down at least in part to being as deaf as the proverbial post. So.... methinks..... maybe I should try for BSL.;) When I have a moment spare (won't be this side of the weekend, that's for sure) I'll have a look and see if there's anything available online.
Manic here today - Mr LW is working from home, and will be finishing at 14:30 (he started at 06:00).
I'd hoped to wash my hair today, but my shoulder had other ideas, and Mr LW couldn't spare the time to help, so that'll have to wait til tomorrow.
BUT..... I persuaded him to do the Tesco run at lunchtime (saving a bit of time this afternoon) instead of sitting playing Balder's Gate on the PS2; so now *all* we have to do when he finishes is:- Dump a ton of stuff off at the tip
- Post the Royal Mail survey item for today
- Bank 2 cheques
- Visit Argos (to recycle old water filter cartridges and get a new pack)
- Visit Boots (recycle batteries and purchase caffeine tablets)
- Visit Waitrose for the stuff I either couldn't get in Tesco or I prefer Waitrose own version
I must try and get a bit of rest though, as I have a new canine guest arriving at 09:30 tomorrow.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
LL - completely agree with the 'opportunities' - have decided is going to be my new outlook on life, grab everything I saw that looks like it might be useful - and if I don't see them then make my own
Things very rarely come to you, unfortunately, so if I want to change things have to put the effort in. Speaking of which, I had barely said I wanted a quiet weekend when saw someone asking for an amateur photographer to go and take some piccies of their country house hotel so is looking like am heading down to the Borders on Sunday afternoon now
The place looks lovely, like a mini-castle!
LW - wow, that's a busy day! Hope you enjoy the film and your new visitor tomorrow

I hope you don't mind me asking but I'm fascinated by your use of caffeine tablets.
May I ask why you take them. Were you prescribed them.
I notice you say you are going to buy them - I never realised that you could just buy them over the counter.
You have mentioned that sometimes you find it difficult to sleep - forgive me but I thought that caffeine was a stimulant. Could the caffeine tablets be contributing to your sleep problems.
I know that in the past I have suffered from caffeine addiction and even now I am very careful about my coffee consumption. Three cups a day max for me - it used to be at least a dozen .
I googled caffeine tablets just now and noticed that people take them for energy which I can understand i.e. "the caffeine lift" and also to help with weight loss.
The strongest pain relief tablets I ever take are Paracetamol 500mg with added caffeine. Asprin, diclofenic, ibruprofen are absolutely out of bounds for me because of stomach problems.
Do you take caffeine tablets to help with pain relief, if so do you think they are effective.
You sound busy today.;)0 -
I had to post when I read about the caffeine tablets as it's the complete opposite for me today.
I haven't been a good sleeper for years and things seemed to be worse lately. I take an age to get off to sleep then wake 2/3 hours later, then again after another couple of hours. Just drifting off nicely and it's time to get up! So last night I took 2 amitriptyline in the hope it would help (I had them here from when I had the back trouble a few months ago). I still woke up twice but have felt spaced out most of the day!!! So I won't be trying them again in a hurry. Fortunately, I had nothing urgent I needed to be doing (which is why I chose last night). I know this isn't a medical forum but anyone got any tips on sleeping?
I have managed a shower, slathering and done my hair. Nothing much else though. I'm going to be busy after today so maybe good to have a good rest. Tomorrow I have to go to SW first thing. I haven't been for a few weeks and I'm hoping to be back on target again. Brown cords, top and cardigan (Snap mooloo!) that I'm wearing today are a bit tighter than last time I wore them so hopefully a good sign. I'm off to Torquay on Friday and tomorrow need to sort out some clothes to take. Such a shame the weather's turned again.:( At least maybe the traffic won't be too horrendous.
You remembered well LL, I do speak passable French. My vocabulary is good, grammar not so but I do mostly understand what people say to me. I mostly learned at school and by travelling but I did go to a class for a term when we started holidaying regularly in France. I find the trouble with so many classes is that they fold through lack of numbers or the day/time isn't suitable. I have got some tapes though so maybe I'll dig them out. Usborne's 1000 words is cheap on Amazon if you're interested.
Have a great time tonight ww. I think it's a great idea to get out and meet new people and try new things. I empathise with you being bored. I get like that very easily but often that's because the things that I need to do don't appeal!:rotfl:I really do need to do something that involves using my brain.
Hope your photoshoot goes well at the weekend pod. Did you learn to take photos? I know nothing more than point and shoot, so I'm curious how you compose your subjects.
Bratz, I read a post from you saying you're still feeling a bit down. Sending you a hug, but do come on here if you feel like a rant.
LW, have a good time at the cinema. Your canine visitors seem to be coming thick and fast at the moment. Is it because their owners are on holiday?
Don't mean to leave anyone out. I think this is a lovely little group and I do enjoy the chatting.:)0 -
Phew - we got all our errands done, pretty much in record time. Neither of us wanted to hang around in town, the shopping centre is packed! Mainly with people bimbling about with their kids, not looking as if they're there for any real reason, tbh.
Maman yes, I think it's the start of the holiday season that's getting me quite a few dog-sitting bookings.:D I've had them for all sorts of reasons though - Ted the Border Terrier stayed for a few days last year when his humans moved house, and more recently, one of my guests came at short notice because his owners sadly had to attend a family funeral abroad.
LL I haven't been prescribed caffeine; I buy it otc off my own bat. It's available as a product called Pro plus; B00ts also do their own version (same thing, less £). I take it to get me shifted in the mornings, because otherwise I can't get going swiftly enough for Mr LW to help me bathe and dress before he has to leave for work. I also go through a filter pot full of strong coffee during the course of the morning; so I'm actually taking it for its stimulant qualities.
I always finish my pot of coffee by lunchtime, and don't have any more coffee or caffeine tablets after that time.
A lot of my sleep problems are due to nightmares, which I have suffered all my life - one of the things that counselling actually made 10 times worse for me:mad:; also, if Mr LW gets up during the night, he invariably wakes me, no matter how hard he tries not to. Add to that the pain if I move in the "wrong" way while I'm asleep....
I hope all that made sense... I'm typing it with the netbook perched beside me on the sofa, while I use my mini-walker!:rotfl:Mr LW is curently on the WiiFit, and I'm quietly hoping he's forgotten about the cinema, because I really don't have the energy. I'll bet he hasn't, though.:cool:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Maman - I know it's supposed to be non medical but re the sleep - here's what's helped me.
I agree the after effects of amitryptaline are awful. I only take it when I fly for barodontalgia (nerve pain in the teeth which comes on at 30,000 ft).
To help me sort out my sleep problems I deliberately reduced my caffeine intake. I now rarely drink any tea or coffee after 7.00pm and I never imbibe fizzy drinks such as Coke or Red Bull.
Before bed I have a glass of hot milk. I know, I know but apparently it does contain some compound (can't remember what it's called) that has a soporific effect. You could try Horlicks or hot chocolate.
If I'm really struggling then I take something herbal. The main ingredient you need to look for is valerian. Camomile tea can also help.
If all else fails I get up, have a cup of tea, a snack and read for a while or watch some rubbish on TV until I feel dozy. The more I lie there willing myself to go to sleep the worse it gets. If I get up and have a little potter it helps me relax. The odd glass of wine seems to help too.:rotfl:
I would never ever again take sleeping tablets - I was once addicted to them.
Is your room the right temperature - too hot or too cold can make a difference. A warm bath might help. Spraying the pillow and bed linen with a dilution of lavender oil and water is good too - also helps deter mozzies.
Try and keep to regular routines, i.e. no lie ins. A short afternoon nap can help, not too long though - about 20-30 mins max.
Apparently being overtired can make sleep difficult so a short nap during the day can help regulate sleep patterns.
Hope you get it sorted - lack of sleep is very debilitating.0 -

I dont know about LW but I was prescribed caffeine in hospital and continue to drink Coca cola medicinally at home. The reason as it raises intracranial pressure as my Intracranial pressure goes up and down at a very alarming rate. They also give caffeine to babies in Special Care for similar reasons.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Went for a run tonight another 4 miles done in the cold cold wind after work, mind you, better than the snow that fell this morning and disappeared by home time. A good thing as it made my mind up to go out and burn off the creme egg I've just eaten for a treat
It's my weigh day tomorrow and I'm sure I've put some back on now I'm in maintainance phase now I'm at target weight. Well I'll keep my fingers crossed and see how I get on
Opportunities
Exactly how I think about them - take the opportunity when it comes up and don't be afraid of it. I used to be afraid of them and the change but I embrace them when they come up and the change it brings that you might not notice at first, however when you reflect on it, you can see it, it makes you smile and reminds you how pleased you took the opportunity
So my opportunity is tomorrow when I make an enquiry and see where it leadsfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550
