  • This thread is FANTASTIC!! Thank you so much to everyone who posts on here.

This morning I bought 19 Andrex x 1p, 2 x1p Spontex Heavy Duty Scourers, and 8 x 1p Iron Desclarers. I dont really do much ironing but thought family members could have these!
Searched high and low for the items I had from searching this thread but only located 3 items in 2 different stores.
My Hubbie wasnt as excited as I was when I got home and showed him my purchases.:j

    Morning all

Getting annoyed this morning at the RSPCA thanking me for supporting them for asking for yet more money and sending a big batch of horrible photos. I know they have to fundraise but they always seem so greedy, they're never satisfied! It's not as if they ask for a tenner here or there, it's always at least £90 a time, I know it goes to a worthy cause so I send the requested donations when I can but their tactics leave a LOT to be desired! Most of these letters will go to families who will be left feeling heartless because they can't afford a huge £90 just after xmas!

    OK rant over!

Is it bad to want to book a cheap TL so I can go around Mr T's in that area?

My friend told me the same story yesterday.....She donates a tenner a month....They rang her asking if she could increase to £30...she said no...They suggested £20...then £15 then £12..she said no each time...

Hiya Tinyshoes, I can see you lurking, hope you had a good Xmas. Now really off to attack the ironing, I always get sidetracked;)

Hi Nikki, just catching up a bit. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who gets excited about New Year whoopsieing. :D Have done it for years, New Years day can be a good one too and 2nd and 3rd as lots of stuff seems to be dated around then.

Had a hectic xmas but good one thanks and keep falling asleep in the evenings after one glass of sherry, I'm no match for the night shift. ;)

Had a belated home celebration for DD1s 21st last night and on the menu was OEL, and bottles of glitched fizzy pop (the bottles that didn't burst in back of my car :rotfl:), her friends were saving themselves for tonight so they didn't want any of the sparkling wine I got on the last offer!

Can't believe how quickly the week has gone been missing you guys loads and Ts, just too much to do with everyone home. Didn't even venture out last night even though I had seen loads of beef joints with 30th on other day and had a feeling may have been a good one to go for last night but family do come first sometimes. :o

See Happy did not take my advice about getting some stick on soles, what is he like, own up who dared him to put them on Ebay? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway will wish you all a Happy New Year now as have a feeling I wont get chance later. Here's hoping to a year full of glitches and bargains galore. I really think this one will be a hard one to beat.

And my fave for 2011 has to be the 4p boxers even though I didn't get any, all the pics did make me smile. :T

I'm sure there are people here who will think what I'm about to say is really mean, sorry but when I found out how some of these organisations work I changed my ways.

Many Charities share or sell their mailing list of 'benefactors' as it allows them to 'churn' the people who are willing to give into a new area. I'm sorry to say it's a psychological fact that if you give me to one charity you're much more likely to also give to another one and they exploit this. Also a surprising large number of charities employ management teams who's senior managers are on either high 5 figure or 6 figure salaries. Many also employ professional collectors who in some instances retain up to 70% of the monies collected.

As a result I stopped giving money to charities years ago, I still give food (2/3 of my OEP haul went to a local Hostel) and my time (Christmas Day I've worked at homeless shelters helping prep lunch for over 15 years now) and 11 years ago I paid for a Childrens Ward in a hospital to be painted with Animal and Outdoor Scenes (but only on the condition that the person doing the painting did NOT identify me, even to the hospital, as I didn't then want to be pursued by other 'worthy' causes).

It's perhaps the same mindset as if I see someone living on the street I'll never give them cash, but I will buy them food - simplistically because I'm then certain what my contribution is being used for.

If you do give cash to a Charity check to see what percentage of their income goes directly to the work they do, find out how much the Chief Executive and Finance Director are getting paid, finally see if they employ professional collection or sales firms.

Giving hard earned money to a Charity is a generous and kind thing to do, it's heartbreaking to then later find out it may have been used for things you didn't know or expect.

  • Can I clarify something on the clip strip?

I read a post about 20 pages back that made me think people have been buying the whole strip for the price of a single item on it (i.e. if the strip has a price sticker stating say 45p people are buying the whole strip for 45p?)

Or is it that more often then not the strips are either mispriced or low priced items?

    Thanks in advance.

    Amazing!!!!!

You got 3 "thanks" for saying your dogs bit people and killed other peoples pets???

Lovely isn't it? And by the way OP, it's not "nature" for a dog to kill a cat, it's bad ownership and lack of training. If I were that cat's owner I wouldn't have the dog put to sleep, I'd have it rehomed to be trained properly and have you put to sleep. Disgusting.

This happened to one of the grandparents in our mum's and tots group, she's now the guardian of her grandchildren so struggling and had just worked out she could still afford to donate £5 a month to her favourite charity so phoned them to get her direct debit reduced and explained why. The lady she had a the phone told her to cancel the DD and she'd send out a new one for her to sign and return.
This happened and all was well until this time last year when she recieved a call from whatever call centre they used, the girl one the other end tried to make her feel so guilty for not upping her DD that she was left very upset.
She rang them back after going to the bank and cancelling the DD to tell them what she had done and again thety span a story to make her feel guilty for stopping the donation that she cracked up and told them that it was because of them that the charity would no long be getting her DD. She still donates but now goes into a shop to do this.

I think it's a good way to put people off regularly supporting a charity and also think that asking for a set DD amount and no less puts a lot of people off too because some can't afford to give £10 or £20 each month away but may be able to give £5 but when they phone to do this they're told the minimum is £X and no less:eek:
You'd think that they'd be happy with any donation than none
