Thats fair enough, I was only thinking of a charity run as they are organised iyswim.

Last year a friend and I had one of those conversations where we were going to organise our own walk to raise money for CLIC sargent. Old school friend's daughter had leukemia (thnakfully now sorted hopefully!) and we had an idea of organising a school reunion/sponsered walk over the somerset levels. This idea may be resurrected as I do think the payment you have to make to charities to actually do the run/walk (i.e race for life) is pretty high.

Hmm, will ring friend soon and re ignite the idea. I think we talked about a roughly 18 mile walk with a lift home at the end!

I currently have a standing order for our local air ambulances lottery at £5 a month. I think that will have to go.

I am hugely overweight so need to embark on a weight/fitness overhaul. I think the financial sorting is just a small part of the masterplan.

i like your idea 365 tbh ... this is alot of the trouble with these runs they cost so much to enter and i dont think all the money goes to the charity, if you set up your own run for yourself and a few friends then the charity would get more money i reckon ... let me know how your plan goes :)

you are totally right it isnt just about getting financially fit but mentally and physically as well. i too have alot of weight to loose ( aporox 7 stones) and i need to understand that like getting on top if the finances and that taking a long time, getting healthy wont be an overnight solution as well :)

ok today we landed up ( after dealing with the whole bank account fiasco ) going to the asian supermarket in the local city, we got a few things we were needing ( fenugreek etc) then toddled off to costco and picked up a few things, i dont think i will be back at costco and dont think i will renew my costco card as we dont go often enough and we dont get that many fantastic bargains tbh

i checked the soap powder for instance and it wasnt any cheaper than asda, the toilet rolls were but that was cause they were on special but i intend on trying the nicky toilet rolls so no need to go all the way into the city for that, the chicken was £6.90 ( if i remember right) per Kg of chicken,

so although we half the price of the card with a friend so we only pay £15 a month we dont save enough to make it worth our while i dont think

came home and as we were really hungry we went to the local carvery this was paid out of the fun money and it was great not to have to worry about could we afford it or not and just to go and enjoy ourselves

oh but as we paid by debit card i got to do some tillying up after all :) not alot but another wee bit of the interest bearing debt :) every little helps :):):)

Copied the following from the bank account board where i got some good help with accounts... just incase anyone fancied knowing how i got on with the banks :)

we went to the branch of BOS the girl phoned the call centre and tried to sort things as best as she can, i now have an account ( we put £1 into it to see if it was up and running) my profiles have still to be merged but apparently this shouldnt affect my account except ofcourse i cant open a joint account because of my profiles not being merged

hubby has an account, but he doesnt have either a sort code or an account number, apparently he will get one at some point but not sure when that will be

we dont have a joint account as we cant have one of them till we have merged my profiles

i tried to sign up for online banking only to find out that i already have it ( ehhhh thats news to me that is) so i asked for a reminder of my username ( which i never knew i had) and pass word ( which i dont know what it is) and apparently they cant give me it because it has just recently been opened

sigh ... this is a hassle and a half but i am sure when it is all done it will be fine ( i hope)

the next steps for us are get online banking working for me and start setting up money transfers to make sure it all goes smoothly, then slowly get the direct debits sorted

wait till hubbys account info comes through then set up online banking with that as well and test the money transfers etc are working well for that, then get the direct debitsd sorted

open a joint bank account for both of us ensure they are available online .. transfer the money through the accounts to see if they are working and then set up direct debits for that account as well

that then deals with halifax and we just have to sort out savings accounts etc ... i may go to Egg and have one for both hubby and myself ... but that id down the line for me just now

it was a total headache to deal with it and i can fully understand why people stick with banks even though they can get a better deal fiancially elsewhere

but i am determined and i will get these accounts sorted as we need to make our money work harder for us so that we can get out of debt faster etc

thankyou all very much for the help and i will let you know how it progresses

rb10 i usually use say no to and heaven knows why i didnt at this time ... that serves me right and i will deff learn from the mistake and when the bill comes in i will no doubt sob
