Agreed. What is your workplace like El?(rhetorical question) There seems to be a level of chaos and disrespect running right the way through from top to bottom. The only way to get respect seems to be to stand your ground and dig your heels in.
    You keep doing it.

    Happy New Year.

For what it's worth I think it is emotional blackmail for your boss to phone you to ask you to work & be crying.

I bet you get the time taken account of but they don't get penalised. Hence they don't need to learn to change their behaviour.

It's emotional blackmail, disrespectful and pretty pathetic!

It depends on how late they are ... If its ten mins or so I get nothing ... But then I get stuck in rush hour traffic as I still have to do a changeover ... Infact anything less than an hour I don't get paid . They get paid their normal amount ... So I do their work for them but they get the money :( anything over an hour I will get paid

The thing is its happening almost all the time now I have complained and nothing seems to have changed

It tends to be the same people as well and my shift crossovers just happen to be with them

There are a core of good workers here, there are a core of people I trust and they are the ones that will cover when the other ones phone in sick etc

Like today the phone went again ... Can I come in at 2.30 ( and work through till 8am) as one girl was being sent home ... Now this girl that was sent home was genuine I saw her the other day and she looked like death warmed up but she dragged herself into work ... She had dragged herself in again today and the other worker said no ... This isn't happening you are ill ... The other girl said I can't let the team down ... The girl on shift said I don't care you are ill, so they phoned NHS 24 and spoke to them ... This woman was very ill but dragged herself into work ( she is one of the core workers )

The other one ( that I'm covering for just now) has been phoning up the unit out of her nut .. Talking total crap and not realising it's work she is calling ... The boss came in and covered from 4-7 ( I came in at 7) and she told me that she had phones and what she had been saying

Thankfully the boss has said that it stops now ( although I'll believe it when I see it ) and I have not to let her in the unit at all if she appears

It is pretty pathetic to have to listen to your boss breaking down on the phone ... The thing is this happens far too often ( maybe 3/4 times a year) and a lot of it she has brought on herself as well as she has let this behaviour go I for far too long ... The annoying thing is she knows I would never let a stranger do my work as it isn't fair to the person I work with ... I'm protective of them and want the best that they deserve ... And my boss knows this

Damn me for having high work ethics lol

write down how much you are covering for the late people in the mornings and tot it up over a month. That way you have evidence for a formal complaint as it is a regular occurance. If they don;t do anything say that you'll deduct the time off your starting time.

I have to admit one night it annoyed me so much I arrived at work and sat outside in my car... The person that was on ( one of the ones that is ALWAYS late) looked out the window and saw me ... I stayed in the car and didn't go in till 10 mins late, she had been pacing the floor and staring out the window .. When I came in I acted like nothing had happened ( like she does with me) she passed comment to the person I work with ... Ooo look el has finally decided to come to work ... I looked at her and said " sorry did you say something " " do you have a point to make about my lateness whilst all the time remembering how brilliant your timekeeping is"

She shut up at that point ... Was 15 mins late the next day though grrrr

So yes I think I will try what you suggest scaredy thanks
