10 months in and 90 left to go ... the reality is starting to kick in :)

Thankfully just now we can get 5% off our shopping due to hubby's work discount so I wouldn't put the shopping in it ( unless it was clothes shopping or something )
I was thinking council tax which is £150 a month (5% for the first 3 months ...1.25% thereafter) and the diesel which is between £30/£40 a week
Just something I'm mulling over
I tried to join Halifax for the £5 cash back every month but I had to go to a Halifax branch and take proof ( none in Scotland ) I need to look and see if the BOS has the same account though0 -

Hi Elantan, I've come to find your diary
If you're worried about using a cashback card, how about making a payment to the card every time you use it. From the last few posts what you are interested in, is the cashback, as it's free money. So you could pay your £150 council tax, then do a payment to the card for the same amount. I've no clue how this would work and you would have to set yourself up with a DD for the minimum amount but you wouldn't end up with much of a bill. It would stop you worrying perhaps?
I do something similar but I have savings pots with the offset mortgage. Every time I spend (we) on a CC, we move the money from a pot (food, fuel, clothing etc) into a credit card savings pot. Then when the DD is due we switch it to the current a/c. As we have an offset mortgage we want to hold on to the cash as long as possible, so this works for us. It took a while but now it's a habit and when we update the spending diary twice a week, we switch the money around.
Sorry for the long post but cash back cards are a help and it would be good if you benefitted, in a way which works
Best wishes.

I'm up and about yay .. My holiday starts here
hubby is out buying chicken and mince... Then we're going for a walk up the local street to get application forms for the £5 a month reward accounts with BOS ... I'm also taking my dross up to put into my account and transfer it over to the interest bearing visa ... I took my pennies up the other day and paid that in ... Today it's £2 coins and 20p's ... I just don't have enough for a bag worth so ... Will count what I have and try and put that in if they will let me

Meant to say - my mortgage is with Halifax and I needed to go into a branch earlier this month but just went into our BoS and they sorted it, they called someone and were a bit unsure of what to do but got there in the end!Mortgage OP 2025 £6750/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

So I took my pennies to the bank £17.50 winging it's way to my interest bearing visa as we speak
Went to the BOS they no longer do the account that gives you £5 a month ... Only the Halofax does ... So I have to figure out a way to open two of these accounts without getting stressed ... I tried it before and it was a total nightmare0 -
In other news ... Hubby got the chicken and mince (£7.50 a kg of mince ... Don't mind if I do
) however ... He also got potato starch not a problem at all says I ... Until I went to unpack it and spotted it was over 2 months out of date .... So now we have to go back and get our money refunded or exchange it for another bag .... Kinda grrrrr as the reason I got hubby to get it after work was cause he was using the works can saving us diesel ... It's a 45 min round trip approx to the Asian supermarket and hubby drives right by it or work so it makes sense for him to pick it up ... He's not back at work for over a week and he plans in cooking up a storm so will need to potato starch ... So my diesel saving idea has went right out the window lol
