I have washed feathered pillows and duvets in the washing machine. One went lumpy, none of the others did. But obviously it is a risk.

Have u looked at the label on the duvet?

And yes, when u get a cat/kitten, its very hit and miss. My first one was lovely., second one was a total pain and loved being a pain. Even used to get me to let him out the back door by meowing piteously like he was gonna die, then run round the front door and pat at the letterbox (which was at the bottom of the door) so it made a knocking sound u couldn't ignore to be let in again.

Drove me N U T Z lolol. Have to admire his intelligence tho lol. You know what they say.., cats don't have owners, they have servants lolol.

What a nightmare! I feel for you there, your cat didn't mean to upset you though and has no idea of the time and cost of the 'damage'. Having her spayed will help I hope and its obviously worth mentioning to the vet about the accidents as its worth them looking into. If my cat wee'd on my bed I would have him at the vets pretty quick as it can sometimes be there way of telling you something is wrong. I once handwashed a down sleeping bag and it was fine, didn't go lumpy. I hope yours gets cleaned okay and that you have a spare one until tomorrow :).

Feather duvets should be washed rather than dry cleaned anyway. You could do it in the bath but the problem will be getting it dry and,in a launderette the drying will probably cost you more than the washing.

If money's tight at the moment you could pick up a cheap replacement at Tesco/Asda and wash your good one when you have more money, but make sure that you air it well while it waits.

If you have a large capacity washing machine it should be ok in there i have washed my double feather duvet a few times in mine with no adverse problems i also dry it in the tumble dryer it loosens the feathers back up and i have had no problem with it lumping. It does take some time however so will need to go in the dryer for two or even three cycles depending on how thick it is again this is only possible in a larger tumble dryer mine is a hotpoint which has a fairly large drum and my washer is a 7kg bosch

Cheaper to get a new duvet - I bought one from Asda for £7.82.

I actually prefer it to my ridiculously expensive goose and feather down one.

My cat did this a few times too - only when I was in the bed. She goes out every night now!

I got my king size feather duvet cleaned at the launderette for way less that £20.

I think it was around the £10 mark.

Our cats used to pee on the duvet a fair bit and we couldn't afford to get it cleaned at the laundrette. Even doing it myself cost around £`10 to wash and dry.

I used to put the soiled area in the bath and put hot water and washing power in too. I'd trample over it with my feet to agitate and leave to soak for a while, then rinse out and trample under the shower. Then trample again to squeeze as much water out as possible. Hang it out to dry over the bannister or outside if nice. it will take a couple of days to dry so it's an idea to have a cheep spare or just use blankets until your duvet is dry.
It's a nightmare isn't it? Ours grew out of it though so we don't have to go through it anymore thankfully!

My puppy peed on my duvet a couple of months ago. At the time I was really upset because I never let her on my bed but she had jumped on anyway. I washed the covers and dried the duvet on the radiator and eventually decided not to clean it in case she did it again. She was only small at the time so there was not a big puddle and I mopped most of it up. I have to say I have never noticed it since and basically forgot about it!:rotfl:How gross am I?
