Same here, its an unfortunate trait of cats that have been litter trained as the beans make the same crunchy noise under their feet.
Tried twice to wash beanbags after spending ages removing the beans only for the bags to become all shrunken and mis-shaped then the cat went on it again anyway :eek:0 -
I had thrown away our last beanbag and sheepskin rugs which are another favourite... Then my lovely grandma went and made me a lovely beautiful beanbag so what could I do.
I have heard that the feliway plug in things can stop them weeing on things if you have one nearby so I might look for some reviews of those to see if people think they work. Rather expensive though...:A0 -
For what it's worth, biological washing powder is only moderately effective on male cat urine. It works okay in the washing machine at 40 degrees - but less well when cleaning by hand. A better option is a specific enzymatic cleaner like this:

The problem is that no detergent will completely remove all traces of the urine and cats have a truly exceptional sense of smell, so you need to use something that'll chemically break it down instead.
We've been dealing the targets of a pi55ing cat for the last five years. Yes, he's been neutered...did it make any difference? No. The only thing that's made any difference is getting a dog. He seems happier now and definitely doesn't pee in the house as often."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
Often there's a reason why a cat will pee or soil inappropriately but the hard part is figuring out why. Once you know the why the how to discourage it is easier. First thing is to rule out a medical issue by taking pusscat to the vet. Once a health issue is ruled out, stress is the next most obvious culprit. This could be because there are too many cats in the houshold, not enough litter-trays for the number of cats or neighbourhood or stranger cats are invading kitty's territory.
Sorry to confirm but beanbags and cats are a lethal mix. If it feels like cat litter under the paws and sounds like cat-litter, pusscat can't really be blamed for thinking that it really is cat-litter0 -
My cat is about 8 years old and has always done this, he is a persian and is sensitive to bladder infections which dont help one bit but isnt always the reason. I know that cats have very good sense of smell and can still smell it even when you wash it off. The cat seems to want to wee on ANYTHING from Ikea. And repeatedly wees on things its weed on before even if i've washed the item with enzyme stuff. Impossible situation. I did get a new sofa and new mattresses out of it but that doesnt make it less annoying or stressful. We only have one cat and he has always done this. We dont have a cat flap so it cant be from other cats coming in.:A0

Try giving your two litter-trays and ensuring both are in places where darling persian can't be disturbed at his private pusscat business0

even large bean bags can usually be washed at a coin op launderette. failing that...I found the best way to remove the beans is to buy extra large garden refuse bags - get a friend to help here - split the seam about a foot and place the bag over it. thenthe both of you upend it and shake the beans into refuse bag. wash the bag in bio powder you can add a teaspoon of bicarb to washing powder a couple of times. then refill with beans.
or do as i did - discard the ruddy thing! I got fed up with the palaver! my dog seemed to think it was hers and the cat liked to pee on it!0 -
Hi Jennieshrew
I am going to merge your thread now with the other thread about cat pee. Good luck and I hope you are able to get the smell out. I have a kitty so I know how bad it can smell
thanks

One of my cats peed on my bed, and I sponged it with hot water, dried it with a hairdryer, and used Nature's Miracle spray which was recommended to me on another forum. You do have to leave it to dry for two weeks, but it worked a treat!GC: December: £145?/£120; January: £125.70/£120; February: £163.22/£120; March £113.94/£120; April £DOOM; May £Gave up; June £DOOM; July £160.78/£108; August £7.65/£200
