The best thing I've found to get rid of smells (cat's pee, vomit, spilt milk and so on) is neat alcohol. I keep a cheap bottle of vodka for this, and it gets rid of all smells. The alcohol eats at the enzymes that cause the smell. HTH.

But can you then get rid of the smell of Vodka off the carpet?

My cat has just peed on my bed...with me in it!

I've had to strip the bed, duvet covers in the washing machine but what can I do with the duvet?? Its a feather one. Will I be able to get it cleaned at a launderette on a Saturday? Could I clean it in the bath? (That may sound stupid but I dunno!)

    Please someone, help!:(
  • If it's a double/king, take it to the launderette and ask them for help. It may be that nothing can be done professionally for the feathers, which means that you will lose nothing by chucking it in the biggest machine on a hot wash and then spending a few quid on the tumble dryer until it's pristine. They'll be working saturday morning (but if nobody is there, the duvet is a bin job, so you may as well shove it in the machine on the offchance)

In the bath will weigh a ton, take forever to dry and will probably go mouldy.

Time to lock the cat out the room at night. Buy earplugs tomorrow as well.

Febreeze? Will take the smell out until it can be washed. I have got varying animal 'presents' out of varying fabric/carpets using 1001 cleaner and febreeze.

Maybe have your cat fitted with a bag...lol. Would surely be worth it to see the contempt on it's little face at not being able to toilet anywhere that it doesn't have to carry around (this bit is a joke obviously!).

Thanks for the replies. She's had a habit of peeing on one of the sofas every so often, but she's come into heat in the past couple of days and has peed on both sofas, and now my bed!:(

She's booked in to be spayed on Wednesday, hoping that sorts it?

I just scrubbed the stain with 1001 Upholstery cleaner (all I've got in the house), but will want it washed before I'll sleep under it again. So annoyed.:(
  • Spaying should stop it, as long as there are no residual smells. I suggest an UV kids' secret writing pen. Shine it in a darkened room and all offending areas will be revealed. Then use an enzyme digester from the petshop to get that stench out.

I feel like crying. I'm on a pretty tight budget this month but have managed to save for a night out tomorrow, got friends visiting. Now I'm going to have to pay £20 odd to have my duvet cleaned.:(

I don't think they realise nobody wants to tread on/sleep under their waste products.

Next time maybe just adopt a cat, you know the literate ones that write to you from the rehoming centre and send photographs, lol? £.4.99 a month and no howling, scratching, wee. God knows why I like animals so much, they are almost as disgusting as people...and I wouldn't want random people living in my house.
