I'll second the bicarb suggestion - that stuff gets smells out of anything!

Neat alcohol is great for removing smells caused by accidents because it breaks down the enzymes. I use vodka because it is colourless so won't stain. Cheap vodka is just as good as the dearer stuff and, if it is only for occasional use, you could just buy a miniature.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I will try the bicarb first because I have loads in and no alcohol. I think it may have dried out, do I just put the bocarb straight on the floor board or do I need to make a paste? Just wondering how the powder will penetrate into the wood without it been damp.

  • Thanks susan I had that thought too, would also form a protective layer on the wood? I will put more litter trays out now when I go away, learnt my lesson.

What about the neat vinegar trick, wet the boards through, then when dry hopefully no smell, agree with the bicarb as well,
  • Thanks, I will probably end up trying all these suggestions to ensure the smell goes.
  • I had this problem in the summer when my sisters un neutered tom peed on my backpack which was on the floor.
I threw the back pack away but had to try and get the smell out of my camera and its bag. I just wiped the camera as I didn't want to damage it and the smell did fade eventually but I tried everything on the camera bag and ended ujp washing it in biological washing powder, several times. It smells ok now. I didn't really want to do it as it is leather but it seems to have survived . So you could add bio powder to your arsenal.

After cleaning it, if the bicarb does not shift it, try surgical spirit, i've found it is the only thing to help with the potty training!
