  • Thank you all so much for the input. I wiped everything with the bio-washing powder and dabbed with vodka, your're right the smell has gone!

She has used the litter tray at last, I put it near the bathroom which is quiet. I've noticed that she is drinking a lot of water, so there may well be something wrong (I hope not we've been inseparable for 18yrs) so it's off to the RSPCA first thing on Monday. Fingers crossed....

    thanks again

Sorry to hear your old lady is having little accidents Bushbaby.

We have a very old whippet and he sometimes can't hold on. I line the chair with a sheet that people use to line cots with when they have babies that leek in the night. Then put a familiar blanket over the top for protection. You could try that , hope it all goes ok tomorrow xxxxxxxxxxx

  • I cycled to see my sister today and left my little rucksack on the floor. When I came to leave I realised her cat had weed all over it. The cat is a male so even worse.
I am not bothered about the bag, I left her to put it in the washing machine. But in the bag was my mobile and digital camera (luckily in a case) The problem is that the camera and phone smell awful. I have washed the case and wiped the camera and phone with a damp cloth and star drops, sprayed a lot of air freshener around but they still stink. How can I get rid of the smell ?any ideas gratefully recieved.

1 part water to 2 parts vinegar.

Take the phone apart............you should have about three or four bits.

Soak a cloth in the solution so that it's just damp; wrap the individual bits of the phone in the cloth and leave overnight.

I read somewhere that you can dry out mobile phones by putting them into a sack of rice....
maybe you might want to try this - but i'm guessing that you wouldn't want to eat the rice afterwards.

  • An update. Although the camera case is leather, I decided that I wouldn't be able to use it smelling like it did, so soaked it overnight in biological washing powder and it is now on the line drying and smell ok. It doesn't seem to have come to any harm, though I guess might not be water resistant anymore, same for the strap.
The camera smells ok now after the damp cloth and vinegar and is still working I am glad to say.
If the phone smell doesn't go off I think I might have to buy a new one. It was one someone gave me and the battery has about had it so I was thinking of replacing it anyway.

I was away for a few days and neighbour watched cats, one corner of my hallway is now wet and stinks of cat wee, it has gone through the carpet onto the floor boards. Now the carpet bit I am not too concerned about because its old and only a patch so I can wash it and quite easily get it clean. I need to know how to get the stench out of the floorboards.
I have tried pouring disinfectant on it, spraying perfume on it anf sparying perfume on the radiator next to it to help with the smell, but the stench is overpowering.
Short of replacing the floor boards, is there anything I can do to get the smell out of the wood?
    Thanks in advance.
  • cover it with a towel then stamp on it to get moisture out then when dry as poss put on mixture of bicarb of soda leave to dry and hoover up - just make sure you dont use anything with ammonia in it or they will re pee on it
