    Hi Nicifer_noonoo,

There's an older thread with lots of suggestions that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the ideas together.

  • Well, he's an RSPCA cat and has a wound under his arm caused by getting stuck in a collar, had it when we got him. We have to clean him every day because he can't be stitched at the moment - done it twice already and ripped them out! He's wearing a cone so he can't go outside, poor devil. Think he is just pining for the great outdoors, and personally I think it will stop when he can finally go out.

Just desperate to get him to use the tray, having a new carpet fitted in two weeks  It isn't his fault, so it seems the only thing i can do is find out a way to stop the smell when it does happen.

Have you tried biological washing liquid? Wash the carpet with diluted biological washing liquid, then spray over the surface with surgical spirit.
    Getting the hang of this!
  • Thanks everyone for your ideas, bought some SP bio washing powder today to give it a whirl and let you know how it goes :)

I have searched and can see there are oodles of threads on cats pe pe, but this is an emergency.

The other morning, I opened the door for my darling very clean cat to have a stroll around the back yard and went into the kitchen.

After a couple of minutes I heard all this yowling and screeching and rushed in to find a tom cat trapped in my front room ( he often terrorises my poor old wuss). The door had blown shut :( and obviously I rushed to open it for the cat to get out.

Within seconds I knew he must have sprayed as the air was foul and pungent and has remained so.

I have no idea where he did it and my place is a tip (sorry Flylady team) and I just do not know how best to deal with the situation.

Advice will be greatly appreciated. someone told me my own non-spraying cat my now feel he has to mark over this other cats spray!!!:( :(:(

Not a lot you can do unless you find the source of the smell. Perhaps something like Oust spray might help the room, but it wont be a permanent solution

I had this problem too, a tom cat came in and sprayed in the hall, it was the most awful smell. I tried everything I could lay my hands on but nothing seemed to work. Someone recommended zoflora and that finally did the trick.

Strange but this came up on another forum I use today - from what I read on a quick trawl round the Internet is not to use bleach to clean the area as the ammonia in it might cause your cat to mark the area too. If you can find where it sprayed, washing the area with an enzyme cleaner and then sponging with surgical spirit or dilute vinegar was recommended. Obviously you would need to test on an inconspicuous area first.
If you have one, a black light bulb (UV) will light up the area where he sprayed.

Good luck – I also agree with the Oust suggestion as it will mask the smell and make it bearable to work in the room.

The black light bulb is an absolutely fantastic idea. Where can you buy them?
