At this point radiator water will squirt out of the system until it depressurises. Radiator water may be sludgy and this can cause indelible staining to carpets.

There's a problem here. The water will squirt back out again. There needs to be an isolating valve on this pipe too.

Oh dear I can almost feel keystones pain when he reads this :D

Yep - already spotted it. A liberal dose or two of something both strong and medicinal later will be of great assistance and support - in the meantime my suffering knows no bounds. :D

MODS: PLEASE CAN THIS THREAD BE MADE "STICKY" AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHY PEOPLE SHOULDN'T DO D.I.Y. WORK WHEN THEY HAVEN'T GOT A BLOODY CLUE!!!

Hi honey, I'm home for Xmas :j

This is gonna kill me I swear, just got back from work, unpacked my loop, unscrewed the ends off it, put them safely in my kitchen drawer in a sealable clear bag, went with a small bowl to catch any escaping crummy water and a flat head screwdriver off to said bothersome pipes under boiler in eager anticipation of finally being able to "man up" and do a simple 2 minute job and [WAIT]...

..... Mr. !!!!!! (1980-2011) himself -it's ongoing incompetence, my stupidity never ends!, doesn't have a bleeding proper spanner / wrench now!!!.

God give me strength people..... aaaargh!

You just wouldn't believe this. It's like Laurel & Hardy, or for those of you a little younger, The Chuckle Brothers - "to me, to you"

    :rotfl:

If any of you people on here are passing Rochdale in the next 48 hours, I'll have a mince pie and glass of sherry for you if you can show this thick unprepared novice how it should be done. Please note, your own tools are required as this tool doesn't have any.

I will look back on this one day and laugh, but not right now :p:(

Molegrips on the valve so you don't unscrew it from the other end (in which case Owain will be spot on), adjustable apanner on the cap. Use one lever in opposition to the other and off it will come.

I really can't believe we've been going through all this and you don't have any tools! I think I'm starting to lose the will to live.

Do you know that although I'm in SW London and looking forward to a few days off a trip to Yorkshire is starting to look really quite attractive on a Friday afternoon.

    Cheers

Would you mind taking your muddy boots off first? LOL :rotfl:
(goes off to google image search "molegrips" in shame)

  • Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Yes, mole grips (adjustable wrench), now you're talking.

Nope, don't have any of them either, jeez :(

Will give you helpful people some peace now while I turn this flat upside down looking for a suitable tool.
(and please don't say have I checked the nearest mirror). That won't help :(

I'll be back later, bet you all can't wait?

God, who needs Twitter and Facebook when all the action and intrigue you'll ever need is going on right here in this very thread eh?

    :rotfl:

  • Tada, we have lift off!!!!!!

Managed to find suitable wrenches and have now raised the pressure from just above "0" to a healthy looking "1.5" :)

    You guys are tops!

    :j :j :j :T:T:T

Time to start on the toilet now please!!!!

  • Typical in that when I'm not trying to film the noise of the flushing, it makes a right racket for like a whole minute, yet when I do 3 movie clips, it doesn't sound bad (or for long) at all. Please trust me, it DOES make racket, usually when the handle is fully depressed in the down position just as it starts to rise. Afraid you'll have to turn your volume up to hear the horrible vibrating noise - if I can post links to the 3 videos I took?

Can't believe I'm posting photos of my toilet and videos of it flushing :rotfl:

Ah look 22.00, time for bed I thought. Quick look at MSE I thought. Nah don't be daft - look where it got you last night I thought.

Do I never learn? Obviously not. Mind you this thread has a sort of perverse attraction to it - heaven knows why!!

    RIGHT.

The Oblong shaped object on your inlet pipe is your isolating valve. Flush the toilet, as it makes foghorn noise on refilling start to close the iso valve gently until foghorn noise disappears.

    Yes?

    Fixed?

    Good!

    Early night then.

If not you've got five minutes before I'm outa here and someone else can go through replacing the diaphragm in your float valve which is the next logical step if it doesn't work or only to the point where you shut off the water suply so that it takes ages to fill.

    Cheers
