Very low water pressure on gauge on combi-boiler

  • you can buy boiler filling loops in B&Q etc.

If you need a charging key you can get them here. However a google at the manual suggests that you should have connections for a filling loop but it may be separate from the boiler. Basically it's a temporary pipe between the cold water main and the radiator circuit.

I think you need to get the council back in, they seem to have caused the problem.

And stock up with overshoes to protect the carpets.

Many thanks. I'm still not sure whether mine uses the keys or this flexi-loop pipe thing, and I wouldn't know where to connect the loop anyway!
The boiler is in the cupboard in my bathroom, the pipes run to the floor but it's all wooden boxed in and screwed down :(

The overshoes look great though, thanks! At last, someone who understands I dont want my carpets and wooden stairs all muddied up and stained! Cheers

  • Hi.

The egg shape thing is an isolation valve.(a plastic nut at each end?)
I think it would be a good idea to make that call to the council.:)

I too would call the council out, last thing you need over the holidays is for the boiler to pack up completely. Also if you did try to do some diy on the boiler/plumbing the council could charge you at least £50 for coming out to repair you work. You are not alone OP l have no knowledge of certain plumbing issues or even diy come to that, in my opinion there is no shame in asking for help
  • Thanks everyone, I can't believe I sat alone for 3 hours last night looking up pressuring / filling combi boilers, LOL ! :)

What reason do I have for calling the council btw?

It was me who bled the radiator (when we're not meant to have a key remember!, I just went and bought one!) and why would they come out just because the pressure is just above "0", or is that a real dangerous situation?

I don't want to admit I bled the bathroom radiator!
Man or mouse? Squeak squeak :(:(

There has to be a filling point somewhere in the system. Is there a panel below the boiler?

    Check in the airing cupboard.

Do you have a hot water storage cylinder?

Well you certainly need someone in. I was about to post more data for you in amplifiucation of what has been written before but now suspect I might be wasting my time and yours. So I haven't.:D

    This is obviously impossible remotely.

    Squeak squeak.

    Cheers

Right then, I will take no prisoners!!!!

Hope these pictures work btw! Just spent ages taking the photo's, resizing them, uploading them and now about to try posting them!

Surely someone can identify what I need to do from these 11 images?

    Thank you in advance :)

Edit: sorry, I can't seem to be able to post the fullsize photos on here, but clicking each link - or the thumbnail - will take you to the page where you can zoom in on each one! Don't click on 'Download' or 'Play Now' to the right as it's some ad, and nowt to do with my photos!

Hoping this isn't asking for trouble here goes:

On this image (only one we need):

    84619758.jpg

Left to right the pipes are:

    A CH Flow
B DHW out to taps etc
    C Gas In
    D Mains Cold In
    E CH Return
F Will probably be PRV Overflow
    G Condensate Pipe

You can see an isolating valve on an elbow at H on the Cold Mains In and a Non Return Valve on the CH Return at I.

Connect your Filling Loop across H and I. Open iso vv at H to let cold mains in to repressurise and close to stop filling. Pressurise to iro 1 bar with system COLD. You do NOT need to fiddle with the exterior nut in the middle of the NRV at all.

    That'll do for the moment.

    Cheers

PS Glad you didn't post the pics at full size - bandwidth usage would have been horrendous. :D
