This is such a fantastic thread. This year I have:
    * come back from two weeks in intensive care and remained reasonably well
    * taken my head out of the sand and acknowledged that my recovery was so much more stressful than needed because of the debt that I had run up.
    * started sellling anything not nailed down to make inroads into said debt.
    * gone back to work full time, in a job I hate, but at least i'm being paid and not made redundant.
    * actually grown up
    * in the last hour had an unconditional offer from a uni I wanted to get into to finish my BSc part time so that I can still work full time.

I agree Wwith the comments about a fab thread :)

I've had a mixed year, negatives were:
    - became a single parent after 18yr relationship/marriage
    - got left with debts in my name

    But......

    - I had my LBM in October
    - have paid off over 2k since then
    - closed 1 CC and about to close a 2nd :)
    - have paid cash for all Christmas present (big achievement for me)
    - starting dating....it's actually rather exciting :)
    - got a full time job where I work, over doubling my income!!

Looking forward to 2012 and paying off most of the debt, if possible I'd like to be DF this time next year

I think the biggest thing for me is that I finally came of my beta-blockers. I had a nervous breakdown in May 10 from working 90 hour weeks for months on end throughout 2009/2010 and eventually my body and mind said "enough!". I had been on the medication for over 18 months so very proud that I'm now completely off them, I have normal working hours and finally know what it means to switch off from work and enjoy myself!

I also moved back in with my parents when my job relocated which was tough at first but after living on my own for years then the company is quite nice actually. Since every penny had been going to pay my bills and left me spiralling further and further into debt, I never saw an end to my debts. Moving in with my parents has enabled me to pay massive chunks off my debt and I WILL be debt free by Xmas 2012. What a huge LBM I had in October...! I was so frightened that I would just revert back to my old ways but I haven't so I'm starting to believe in myself!!!

Oh and I started a challenge on here which has just snowballed and I am so proud of each and every member of the team as we help and support each other towards our debt freedom! I feel very humbled by my incredible team xxx

Really looking forward to 2012 and making that last payment!!!

  • Another thing I achieved this year is 3 colds in 6 months. Prior to this, hadn't had a cold for a couple of years and usually only one a year.

This time I'm managed to achieve getting a cold for Christmas - the first time I will have ever have been unwell on Christmas Day!
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)
  • This is a nice thread .

I managed to go on holiday to Cyprus without adding anything to my debt, that was a huge achievement for me to actually save up every penny.
Saved up enough to pay off 2 credit cards, one more to go.

Made a decisions about our house, instead of putting more money on the mortgage having an extension, we are going to try overpaying (when we have finished the home improvements downstairs) on the mortgage instead.

Wow, what a look back. Lets see:
The start of the year I thought I had a good job, by May I was unemployed.
In the summer I became a black belt in Karate
Ran up lots of debt trying to keep my head above water.
Dealt with numerous threats of husband loosing job then getting fed up with.
Lost another family member! On the plus side inline for inheritance (can't come soon enough!)
Became a MSE member, pulled my head out the sand and got on with my life!
Got a great new job and got told on Tuesday I passed my probation period!
  • What a great, uplifting thread!! Amazing to read about other people and their achievements in life!

My greatest achievements of the year include:
Gaining a first class Law degree!
    Moving in with my partner!
Going from being a graduate on JSA to working full time and being self-employed on the side!

Here's to 2012- paying off debts, saving for a car and making a house a home!!

    Peace out, Jud! :)
