What have you achieved this year?

So the year is drawing to a close (possibly a drunken close...) and I thought it would be nice to have a positive thread...so why not put down something you have achieved this year. It doesn't matter how small but something you think deserves a pat on your back!

Right, I'll start!

I have cut up my final credit card and although I have a long way to go until my DFD at least I'm not making the debts worse. The only way is forward now. And for that I am proud!

  • Well done on your achievements! I definitely had my lightbulb moment this year, and am on my way to clearing my debts in 2012. I've paid off 3 debts this year - one credit card, a loan to my dad, and the remaining balance on a defaulted credit card :) Here's to 2011 and all of the minor and major successes!:j
    Savings target: £25000/£25000

Another huge chunk of debt paid off - 5 years to go! Paid off 2 creditors. Finished Masters degree. Just keep lugging away at the debt and it will go!
  • Well done everyone :T I paid off a large chunk of my debt and by doing so, I moved by DFD by nearly 2 years. :D

I managed not to use a CC in over 2 years now and have learned to budget and control my spending better. :D

  • I FINALLY got a promotion at work! After numerous interviews, and much perseverence...:) It means a bit more money, so I can now start saving up for my dream car :)
  • This year I have finally had my proper LBM and so has the OH! We have spent years trying to sort out our finances but kept falling back into old habits and I am so pleased this year we have actually succeeded. I will be clearing my last credit card in Jan which will then promptly be cancelled and my last loan payment will be in March. :j

I also decided to leave my first proper job (in my chosen career) as I got to the stage where I hated going to work. I didn't hate what I did, just hated being stuck in a rut. In the end I was made to feel I wasn't good enough to work there or anywhere else as the next step was in management and I was told I wasn't good enough for that where I was working. So I plucked up the courage to look for a promotion elsewhere and I got the job at the first place I applied to! :D Although it is a really challenging job and a lot needs doing to get everything up to scratch, I actually feel like I am making a difference. More importantly for me, I feel trusted and appreciated which I haven't felt at work for years now.

I also decided this year I needed to get out from under my depression cloud, so I cut "so called friends" out from my life, who quite frankly were toxic people and decided that life was too short to let others make me miserable. I am trying really hard not to get upset and annoyed by things and am starting to let things go!

Granted, I have far fewer friends now than I did at the start of the year (but in all honesty they weren't really friends anyway, it was always more of a one way friendship thing from me a lot of the time-so am not missing out on much), am in a far more stressful job and am budgeting left, right and centre so that I can clear my debt more quickly, but I know that next year, things will begin to settle. I am already starting to be much happier than I have been for the last 10 years and I am looking fortward to actually being able to enjoy life without having to worry about where the money is going to come from to pay for everything further down the line.

Here's hoping that 2012 is a fantastic year for all of you too!
  • I got a huge promotion at work, and as a result have committed to tackling my debts - I plan to be clear by next Christmas, so just shy of my 30th birthday. Then the house saving starts!
