I paid off £24000 in a year and became mortgage free on family home. Not living in there though, it's rented out as our job is far away from the city where the flat is.
Finished one OU course and passed.
Started to try for a baby in April and although I had a MC in October, we are still hopeful to have a baby in 2012.
I got promoted and my salary went up by 1/5th. Though the responsibilites and workload increased accordingly.
Made the decision to concentrate on paying off investment flat mortgage asap instead of saving the money up.
  • I had a promotion and got a very nice pay rise and have brought forward my debt free date - months now rather than years. Can't wait to be £600 a month better off and start some real saving.

I also qualified in some exams in subjects that have so far been hobbies and interests (I wanted to learn more) so hopefully I'll be able to be self employed in a couple of years when my mortgage is paid off so I'll be debt free and be mortgage free and work part time doing something I enjoy and have a bit more of a life.
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)

This year is the first ever Christmas that I have not spent anything on my credit card, everything is bought and wrapped and all the food is in and every last thing was paid for without any credit.:j

Hope to continue next year by paying off the credit cards and saving a little. :money:

Almost forgot I gave up smoking in August after almost 25 years, when I realised I was spending £200.00 a month on Cigarettes I knew that I had to quit.

    My achievements this year are:

Paid of £14.5K to become (personally) debt free in April this year, bought a house in May, saved up for wedding (paid everything cash), got married in November and went on a fab honeymoon and although (we) have now got some house-related debts, we couldn't be happier. Also became a landlady as my own house hadn't sold but luckily a week before we moved a lovely couple wanted to rent it so still have an asset and am covering all the bills. Feeling very contented at the moment and looking forward to a 1st Christmas being married and in our new home.

Merry Christmas everyone and here's to a great 2012!
  • I don't think I have ever thanked so many posts in a single thread - great idea OP and a lovely Christmas thread.

This year my wife and I have -

    - Bought a lovely new home in the city we grew up in after living in London for 3 years (yuck!)
    - Paid back about 4k of student loan & 10k we owed parents
    - I had a promotion at work which gave about a 50% payrise
    - Continued to OP the mortgages when possible
    - My wife is now expecting a baby

It has been the most amazing year and I cannot wait for the next one.

    Merry Christmas :)
