  • We've paid a huge chunk off our debt. I've got a promotion (at last) and managed to get the CCs off of DH so I could snowball properly.

But most of all, I've kept my sanity, the family is well and our home is gradually getting back to normal. 2011 has been a hard slog but I'm looking forward to 2012 with a smile on my face :)
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • I managed to make it through another year.......good enough for me;)

  • This is a really good idea for a thread!! Well done on everyones achievements!

    Here's mine for 2011:
    • Completed my Masters
    • Got a job using my new qualification
    • Started plugging away at all my student debt!

    :jDebt Free May 2014:j
Mortgage Deposit Savings: €2964.00/€20,000 at least!
  • I (we) got married. It upped the debt but was so worth it. Feel so happy!
  • First time posting, but obviously a regular lurker, in fact i've selfishly been poring over all of the advice on these pages for over a year :o

Never really had any advice for anyone to be honest but WOW ! This forum has turned our life around !
We began 2011 with £22,500 of debt, mostly credit cards and overdrafts

IT'S ALL GONE :T thanks to regular visits here and really applying the advice offered to others.
I was lucky to be offered full time at work (was part time for 2 yrs previous) which helped loads.
We sold anything not nailed down/needed
Halved our outgoings by moving balances, shopping OS board style and targetting the right cards first.
Perhaps now we'll feel we could offer even moral support, it can be done!

All the best for 2012 to all !

For 2012 we're looking forward to renovating our house and we won't be borrowing a penny to do it.
    Thank You MSE'ers
  • I paid off my debts, passed my driving test and passed the first part of my Masters,
I also made some headway in organising and decluttering
I went to Greece. It was beautiful.
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • ah what a lovely thread! what have I achieved this year?

    * have lived within my means for a whole year (became debt free Oct 2010)
    * not been over drawn once, although have been close to having £0 in the bank a couple of times!
    * finally took the plunge to leave my job as it has been making me miserable for ages. Start my new job in jan :T
    * done some real work on improving my relationship with my dd & working on changing my responses to her challenging behaviour...
    * finally have saved 6 months of outgoings as a security blanket
    * saved up almost £2k from money other than our salaries (selling things, students, any money that we got other than through our employment) for when we go to Brazil next year :j
    * moved home & downsized, much happier in our new home
    * went on 3 holidays - 1 to Morocco, 1 to spain and 1 to cornwall (gotta love the sun holidays! :D)
    * saw another year through with my lovely oh
    * saved throughout the year for Christmas and have come in under budget by £100!

some real major achievements. Really excited & looking forward to 2012!

My big one was having my LBM in July :) and then not drifting back to my old spendy ways. Paid for Christmas and actually reduced my debt instead of adding to it in December :)

Roll on 2012, I won't be deft free by the end of it but hope I'll be a lot debt lighter :T

    ......................................
  • I am quite proud of 2011.

Jan-Jun was terrible and I dipped into all our savings to ensure we did not default on any loan payments etc!

In July I got a bonus and put this towards a debt of £6000 with LLoyds TSB - 1 debt gone!!!

Sold off a load of old junk out the garage worth £600 after fees on ebay - Overdraft £550 gone!!!

and in a wierd way I got injured at the end of the year due to works fault and due £15000 compensation in Apr-May next year. = Completely debt free.....

Oh and started saving again for deposit - back upto £2000 even saving £500 in Dec -

So glad I saw the light last year, I cant wait to be debt free!!!!!!!!!
    I AM DEBT FREE 18/6/12
    SAVINGS = £10100
