I had my first WP interview/'review' today & the advisor confirmed that universal job match is mandatory, which I already knew anyway, she then went on to say that I have to apply for jobs even if they're 90 miles away (no car or driving license!!) and if I click on a job that is in the recommended jobs section of job match and don't apply I could get sanctioned. She then went on to say that if you don't view the recommended jobs on the job match home page then benefits can be stopped straight away as it is proof you're not looking for work, apparently. I have retail experience and was made to apply for a legal secretary job ! Completely ridiculous.

Firstly, Universal Job Search (presuming you mean that site - not something different) is NOT mandatory, and they cannot force you to use that site.

I believe theres some truth in 90minuts away, not miles though....BUT they can't force you to apply for more than you have agreed in your JSA agreement, unless you sign an action plan with the WP where you say you agree to do, say, 100 apps a week.

If you do use the new Universal Job site (best avoided) then you could be sanctioned for not giving a satisfactory answer if you leave the page and it asks 'why you didnt apply for it'....as they can track whatever they want off you.

The vast majority of WP staff really are scum who are in it for just the money, and they don't care making your life a misery and will lie any which way they can.....so long as they can force you to sign off....so long as they can claim their ridiculous payments from the government.

You'll often see them trying to push pretty much any 'idea' into you going self employed too.......as its easy to 'start up' (aka "be signed off"=money for the WP) and you be 'struggling' for several months or more...and then have difficulty signing back on if your plan does not come to fruition as its a nightmare having to prove yourself when want to claim JSA again after coming off from being self employed.

mandatory activity does not mean work placement.
It could simply mean apply for 5 jobs

So how does the wp then become the same as workfare? I am confused

I have been told and I have been on the WP since August 2011 and leave it in July 2013 that I will never do a placement as they do not run such a scheme.
they are not the same. they are 2 different courses. 1 is solely about a placement and 1 could involve a placement at some point but probably wont.

Do you always believe what you are told ?

They'll tell people anything to try to get them to do what they want.

there are no transferable skills to be a legal secretary from retail
they would say did you work as part of a team in the office. if you say yes they would say well you need to be able to work as part of a team in retail. so thats a transferable skill.

I didn't say it was a requirement, or that you 'will' have to do a placement. For example I wasn't made to do one, though I know many that were.
i was just explaining the difference. with one it is a requirement and with the other it isnt.

of course i agree. its total bo**ocks. when i was told to make my job log alot more varied i said it is difficult to find a variety of stuff i could apply for because so many require previous experience. i said alot of call centre jobs i see require previous experience. their response was if you have transferable skills and/or think you could do the job then still apply.
