I have been on the WP since Aug 2011 and never been sent to work or a placement so I have no idea you tell me?

No you tell me, you made the claim, you not I, claimed that ' Workfare and work programme are not the same thing ' so read the below and tell myself and the whole group your reasons for claiming that 'Workfare and work programme are not the same thing'

See #2283 from September last year and #2252 from December

I do not need to read anything thanks.

I am guessing on the workfare thing you are made to work somewhere?

And on the WP you are not.

Because IF the workfare and the WP are the same thing then on both you attend an office once a month for a few mins and then thats it.

It all depends on the provider, your advisor, and your status on the providers books. You can be mandated to work for free whilst on the Work Programme, and for some providers this is done incredibly often. So whilst technically not the same, one often results from the other, to a disproportionate degree.

Also whilst I was on the Work Programme I had to go in once a week, once a fortnight for a pointless chat with an advisor (and job search), and once for a pointless job-search (without chat). Some people there had to go in every day for 6 hours at a time. I also heard some advisors actively threatening people with having to go in daily unless they managed to get 'x' amount of interviews within the next month.

I had my first WP interview/'review' today & the advisor confirmed that universal job match is mandatory, which I already knew anyway, she then went on to say that I have to apply for jobs even if they're 90 miles away (no car or driving license!!) and if I click on a job that is in the recommended jobs section of job match and don't apply I could get sanctioned. She then went on to say that if you don't view the recommended jobs on the job match home page then benefits can be stopped straight away as it is proof you're not looking for work, apparently. I have retail experience and was made to apply for a legal secretary job ! Completely ridiculous.

PS, watch what you say to your advisor. Mine was bragging that she had got a guy sanctioned because he said he was better off on benefits.

How on earth can you be made to apply for a legal sec job when you have never been one? Did you ask?

You sure its 90 miles not 90 mins?

90 miles would be stupid and probably take hours on public transport.

I know here in London for me to travel 90 miles it would take 3 hours (6 hours each way). Its 90 miles from East London to Portsmouth!!!

its DEFINITELY 90 mins not miles. One of my neighbors works for the JC and when I got an arsey JC advisor who was saying I had to apply for a job that would take me 2 hours to get to and 3 hours to get back from (due to crappy public transport) she confirmed this for me. Distance has nothing to do with it, it's the actual time it will take you from leaving your home to getting to the place of work, using pubic transport, that counts.

"""I do not need to read anything thanks""" - yep the vadoma response I expected, and received

"""I am guessing""" - yep you are, just that, guessing is a good answer, vadoma is always preferable to knowing

Now AP007, you made a claim that """Workfare and work programme are not the same thing""" Would you care to explain to the group why, when they can stop your benefit for 26 weeks for not undertaking a mandatory activity, you believe they are not the same thing ? These new changes were introduced on 22nd October 2012, and further revised ages ago on 3rd December 2012, maybe its because you don't need to 'read anything' that you missed something that should directly concern you.

    see the provider guidance

see more info for AP007 to read, or remain forever a member of the ostrich tribe and not bother

You do not have to preach to me I am on the bloody WP!!

I have never been told to do anything other than apply for jobs like I have always been doing.

The JC can also stop anyones benefit if they are not applying for enough jobs etc and you do not even have to be on the work programme of the workfare thing (whatever that is)

The letter people got in Oct came from instructions from the DWP as a lot of people had not been doing what they were told etc

I only need to read what is given to me in writing and I have had no such thing other than a letter from the wp just reminding me that you (everyone) has to attend the appointments they book for you where in my case they are only once every 4 weeks.

It seems EVERYONES experiences on the WP or the workfare are different and I am only telling you what I know.
