Like what? The course that they have shown me on that link I already know how to do it all and it was compulsory either, they said have a look. 160 hours long and for what? To learn what I already know.

The timescales for the Vision2Learn IT courses are well out of whack. I skipped through most of the course and just did the assessments, all of which took 1-2 hours each so I spent less than 20 hours on it but I did one every few weeks but some people sat down and did the whole course over a weekend etc. I only did it for a certificate for the file.

With respect that is why they are probably helpful. If you had 20 years work experience and a career you would be told otherwise.

I totally agree. It seems from what I have read that they aren't really that helpful to a lot of you.

I rang them this morning and to be honest they didn't really care. She just said call back after your holiday and sure we can find you something then. Feel a lot better today.

I find courses that actually I need to get a job aren't available to me as I need to be offered a job to get the training I need to get the licence I need to get a job.

I find it really stupid to put one barrier in front of me and then offering me a job with an agency that requires the licence i need to get the agency job, totally pointless sometimes.

Formal complaint has been emailed off, bit longer than intended but I wanted to get the whole story across. Now I just sit back and wait for the response to find out if I need to take things further or not.

Yes so I have asked them and the reply is that there is nothing.

Courses in 'anything' so long as you haven't done them before are not cost effective if you have no interest, no experience in that field etc.

It's like saying do a course in cooking but you are a secretary. That will go far in getting a job.

them saying there isnt anything isnt exactly accurate i suspect. a more accurate thing to say is they arent aware of anything. like i have said colleges and local community centres usually have courses available for free for people on means tested benefits. if they ever do become aware of these they may start pushing people towards them.
the longterm unemployed are expected to be willing to do anything. so a training course unrelated to your experience could be something they would ask you to do.

I'd do a course unrelated to what I've done before as long as it wasnt something stupid!. Theres this community centre I go to and they have all sorts of courses Im going to sign up for a couple I think to keep me occupied.
I dont know about anyone elce but I worry a lot about the future and if I will ever get another job!

If they are amazed at people wanting to do Advanced Excel andnot having a clue where to look or how much it could be I doubt mine will EVERfind free courses in totally irrelevant things. They could try but they probably wont have the time to find these course cause aren't they meant to be finding JOBS!?

Oh yes just to add my provider have their own training centre and I have seen people in the meeting room having courses etc to get forklift truck licences etc

part of getting people a job is putting them in the best position possible to get a job. that can mean training courses.
as it seems there are some courses available from your provider afterall i suspect they are being decent and allowing you to stick to the type of work you want to do rather than saying how about training to do retail or training to do care work etc.
if doing advanced excel is important to you have you tried contacting local colleges etc yourself?
