Qualifications mean nothing if you have no current experience and for someone who has worked in accounts for 20 years against someone from retail with 20 years exp I know who they would interview.
There is no such thing as an advantage as I can tell you no one I worked with in my team had accountancy qualifications. Only the Financial Director was fully qualified and so he should be on £100k a year.0 -
I have never had any training at any job. Was shown how to put 1 invoice on at my last job by a part timer and the rest I worked out alone.
Not all jobs give training.
Every company has a different way of doing things but even from the same industry using the same accounts package you wont know the job at all till you get there and do it.0 -

The same goes for accounts packages. I have used Agresso, Sage Line 50,Sage Payroll, Pegasus Opera & Senior, SUN Accounts, IBM AS400, Tetra 2000, Mentor, & MicrosoftDynamics Navision but if you have not used whatever the job uses at your last job you are less likely to get shortlisted.
I went for an interview at a champagne merchant in Nov last year and I was the only one they were seeing with industry expereince but due to me using IBM AS400 over 10 years ago I never got the job. They took someone on who had used the latest version at their last job.
NO training can change this as you have no idea what package the new job you apply for uses and even if you did you need to have USED it, not just got a lame certificate saying you can.
There are systems I have never used like SAP, Oracle etc so that goes against me if people want staff who have used these ones.0 -

Says : Applicants MUST have at least 1 year Sage Line 50 version 12 experience
I have used Sage Line 50 but not version 12 so no point applying!0 -
The WP haven't discussed training or courses with me. I've told them I get no funding for most courses at the college just a discount for being on JSA. I do get my distance learning ones free though, that's about it. Think I am going to finish my paperwork so I can start my last course. I also want to do the first aid certificate so will see if they can help with that, not likely though!0

LadyMissA
AS400 is a operating system not a accounts package,
The latest version of OS/400 is IBM i 7.1.

Whatever it is was I have not used the latest version as it was over 10 years ago and even then they hadn't had an update in over 8 years.0 -
Erm I am looking for work in retail and I do not need training for that either as I was an asst supervisor when I was 18 for House Of Fraser.I have an RSA Diploma in Retail Distribution and I am telling you I wont be doing any courses in retail as I do not want to work in retail
Do you care to share with anyone else whatever it is your smoking? You dont make sense to me with most of your posts but this one is great.
Go outside and get some fresh air, theres more to being unemployed than sitting at your pc pretending you know it all.0 -

It's perfectly clear to anyone that has followed the thread that LadyMissA has enough relevant experience in her past to apply for retail jobs and doesn't need any more training whether she wants retail work or not.0
