they know many wont know what do do about it or wont want the hassle. also the problem with sanctions is its guilty until proven innocent. so you could be in the right but you would need some physical evidence to stop the sanction.

The evidence would be a threat from them saying if you didnt get a phone you would get no JSA!


Still I say no one can get a sanction for not having a phone!

I have a mobile, but I have no voicemail or credit on it so it's just a phone so people I know can get hold of me.

it would have to be in writing. you would also need to show they arent allowed to make you buy a phone.

Well let me see. Since the WP are meant to be helping you back into work and since this person has probably not had a job the whole time they were just attending the JC then the WP would need to prove that was an issue and stopping the person working by not having a mobile (which it wont).

Also this person should just ask the WP provider for the money to buy said phone. Easy!

they want to be able to phone him once a fortnight. i agree they should pay for the phone.

so this person has no home phone either? Meaning they have no internet access to look for work?

no they dont have any phone at all. they do their job applications through a facility at a community centre.

I find that very oddd that they have no home phone and no mobile.

If they have no phone then how can employers contact them if they want them to come for an interview? Yes they may email, but I think 90% of my job interviews have been arranged by telephone. IMO not having a phone of any kind is a barrier to getting a job and personally I would question how committed someone is in looking for work if they have no contact number.

Some providers in Cardiff have been known to buy customers phones and also top them up every month!
