  • A book on how to drive a tank and other essential skills for the modern man.
A set of DVDs about the Ark Royal.
And a special compact pair of aviator goggles that will fit under his open-face helmet for when he's out (broken down somewhere) on his classic bike.

I'm expecting something practical. Like fluffy socks.
  • Two tickets for the Olympic football quarter finals in August, and a jumper because otherwise he'd wear any old thing on Christmas Day!
  • PS3 game, The Wire and Sopranos first series on DVD, jumper and tshirt from a make he loves but I can only afford in the sales, his fav aftershave, a cd he's been hankering for and a book about his football team.

When I first met him, I got him a music mag subscription as he is really into music. He still says now that was the best thing he's had.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Gillette set (the big one with loads of blades..he manages to make it last till summer)
2 bottles of beer (big ones from Tesco which look like wine bottles)
    Scared Shrekless DVD
    Silver necklace and bracelet
    Small nivea set

Also new pj's and Mr Matey bubble bath for the Christmas Eve hamper, still need to get the Xmas Ice Age DVD for it as well...

Just realised that it looks like so much when all written down but has been bought throughout the year so no really big expense.

We have spent more this year than normal as we had a little boy in April and said we would get great presents this year but from next year baby boy gets everything and we and everyone else just get token gifts. This year we bought my Dad a 40" tv (ebay, new from Argos but so much cheaper), Mum a netbook (ebay, used but excellent condition), brother a singing dancing coffee machine (ebay, new but cheaper..seeing a pattern yet...lol), sister in law, massage table (ebay), and niece a massive beauty box on wheels filled with nail stuff (ebay)

Probably spent close to £2000 all in, but like I said spread over the year and didn't get into debt for any of it, and next year we have a limit of £50 for all the "dearer" people....Looking forward to getting all the bits and pieces during the year....xx
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)
  • I've bought him a stripey long sleeved T shirt, licorice allsort and dolly mixture (fimo) bracelets, a wind up torch, some American foods like Lucky Charms, Schnieders' pretzel bites, French vanilla coffeemate. We tend not to buy each other much, don't have a lot of money anyway but we'd rather spend it on the boys. All he's asked for is socks, bless him!

I think that doing what you are both happy with is the important thing. If couples are happy spending a lot or a little or even nothing as long as they are both really happy with it then that is that matters.

Me and OH have always bought for each other but it varies each year as to how our finances are!! A few years we have been very hardup and then each others stocking would only have some individual chocolate items and cheap things like socks, maybe a book etc.

Although I have quite a few presents for OH they did not cost much. I have bought them over the year, in sales, online etc. I have friends who spend £100's on each other and tell everyone what they bought but I am happy with what we do. We decide a rough estimate of how much we will spend on each other and it works for us.

I just hate it when people boast how much they have spent as though that is meant to show how much the love each other or, on the other hand, people say they don't buy because they don't need one day a year to show their partner how much they love them - in other words insinuating those of us who do buy for our partners don't love our partners as much.

Thank you for all the kind suggestions.
Another question - is lingerie a present regarded as being for him or her? I've always been quite ambivalent about this point IYKWIM.

I class it as both, so we always tend to pick and buy lingerie together so that we both know that we'll love it ;)

For the guys reading - what little/jokey gifts tend to go down well?

I already got OH a little something for under the tree, but I still feel like he isn't getting much to open. So, I don't want to break the bank as I've already spent enough, but I would like a few little surprises for him to open on the day. Even if they are only edible or for fun.

Chocolate is always a winner for OH, but I already have some for him.
Ooohhh, chocolate orange from the English shop if there is any left. In fact, treats from the English shop is a good idea full stop.

OK, nevermind, answered my own question.
