  • Just sent the photo's to my insurance company. Just gotta take one more which is to show that my passenger door will only open about 4 inches due to the massive dent in the front passenger wing.

Asda have instructed their insurance company so it's simply a case of waiting.

    Hi,

Not even sure why I am posting this, just feel so frustrated.

Was tonight at somebodies house purchasing some driving lessons (not me, my OH) Heard a loud bang and some scraping. Turn around and an Asda van was forcing his way down a narrow road and ended up scraping and denting my front passenger side wing and passenger side bumper, my passenger door cannot be used.

Attempted to follow the vehicle which made off at speed but was no where to be found. Was only minutes away from the local Asda so went there and asked for the management. They said it wasn't their store but another one and that store would contact me in the morning.

Thankfully I have 2 witnesses that have come forward, bless their hearts!!

Argh!! So tomorrow I hope my boss is understanding why I may get a couple of phone calls.

Seriously not happy, the car was whilst not new, it's only 3 years old and has only been mine for 2 weeks :(

same kind of thing happened in my street last week, asda van hit my friends parked car ( reversed into it knocking the bumper off ) and drove off without saying a word. We saw it out of the window because he lives in a first floor flat, asda are not co-operating saying that nothing was put in the accident book by the driver when he got back that night

£300 worth of damage my friend is looking at and still chasing asda about it. makes you wonder if there policy is to drive off when possible when they hit something/one doesn't it ?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Company vehicle insurance is so used to having things like this happen, they will more than likely pay out without any argument. Used to be a company car driver myself and got hit in the back by an elderly woman not seeing me stopped at traffic lights, which were just going on green. I pulled over, she overtook me and drove off !. I went to police station to report it, just as finishing statement, she walked in and said I think I hit another car. They left it to us to swap insurance details.

Company insurance paid out for her damage, as they said they couldn't get much sense from her insurance co, as she said I hit her !???. They said it was easier to just pay out !

I have driven a van like an asda one once and believe me, unless you are used to driving one and have your wits about you, it wold be easy to side swipe another car. They overhang the body of the vehicle and it's not easy to judge gaps, the driver compartment is ok, just the overhang is bad. He more than likely didn't even feel the scraping, so thats why he didn't stop.

Good Luck with getting it sorted, next thing will be a phone call from insurers asking when they can drop a car off for you and pick yours up. More than likely in new year now.

Don't worry too much about the photos, they might be used as evidence in a driver disciplinary.

When I was driving a BT van once, I was reversing around something and hit a parked car just before it came into view on my mirror. My van didn't have a scratch on it and the car had a huge dent in the arch above the wheel. I hadn't realised I had hit it because I didn't feel or hear anything and only realised when the car alarm came on, if it hadn't I would probably have driven off not realising.

So its possible to a) not feel/hear anything and b) not have a scratch on the van
  • I took a look at the scrape down the side of my car and there is definetly flakes of white paint in it. I shall update the insurance company when I have a moment.

What really bugs me is that no one from Asda has yet said sorry!!

I don't want compensation, I just want my car fixed and a goddamn apology!!

That may well be because it could be deemed an admission of liability and against the rules their insurers have laid down for dealing with claims.
