50 mph Average Speed Cameras

Everyone has different priorities. An Aygo is a fine car for short distance work, but for regular long distance it's really not ideal and will soon become uncomfortable and/or painful. A bigger car is pretty much essential once you're doing longer trips.
Personally I wouldn't want to do any serious motorway work in anything smaller than a Focus. I have done in the past, once put 2500 miles on a hired Corsa in a week. I was literally in agony half way through the week, but had no option but to continue.
Glad that what you have works for you, but it doesn't work for everyone.0 -
You're obviously a very confused individual.
Scenario-if I am in the 3rd lane of an M-way it is because I am overtaking cars in the 2nd lane.
If I am not overtaking any vehicle then I always pull over to the left, even into the 1st lane if it is clear.
I do not hog 2nd or 3rd lanes.
However, if I am in the 3rd lane at, or close to, the speed limit overtaking then I'm not going to just pull over to another lane because some aggressive turd behind me wants to go at 80 or 90mph without my finishing my, totally legal, manoeuvre.
I am driving correctly and the sap behind me should learn to drive correctly or get off the road for good.
Don't tell me how to drive, in 25 years I have driven some 1 million miles without ever receiving a speeding ticket, a parking fine or been the cause of an accident.
I know that I am an excellent driver as not only my record proves this but I also attained IAM membership in 2002.
That is all anyone is asking, as long as you are overtaking (and not taking 5 minutes to do so) there is no excuse for tailgating.Phils_debt wrote: »When j go through them i travel at 50mph on my satnav while others are zooming past ,ive heard on a few car forums that changing lanes after the camera works so your in one lane for one set of cameras then in another lane before the other cameras come.
Dont know how true it is and ill never try it as i like my clean licence
I understand it used to work for a time, when SPECS cameras were first introduced, but now no longer does.0 -

I agree, i just don't understand the need for all these huge 4 x 4's, i know some people need them because of where they live, country, farms etc, but i still think a lot of them are just status symbols.
I've had the luxury cars when my ex and i were together, 2 Maseratis and an Aston Martin, they were his company cars so no expense to us, but i'm not bothered what i drive as long as i get where i'm supposed to be. To be honest, the Maseratis were the worst cars i have ever driven ! You can still only do 50mph through the bl**dy speed cameras !0 -

I've read on a few forums that the moon landings were faked - that's nonsense as well.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
You're starting a whole new debate there. I would very much like a Chevrolet Suburban, and the only reasons I can put into words are that its bigger than everyone else's car and no one else has one which makes it cool. Many people would hate that attitude but it remains legal to own such a car and owners contribute more to the economy in terms of tax on fuel.I agree, i just don't understand the need for all these huge 4 x 4's, i know some people need them because of where they live, country, farms etc, but i still think a lot of them are just status symbols.

I wouldn't hate you !
If i had unlimited funds to buy and run a car i have to say it would probably be an Aston Martin, only because i think it's beautiful to look at ! Suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that !
For now, needs must and an Aygo it is !0 -

This used to be true but it was nothing to do with the cameras.Phils_debt wrote: »ive heard on a few car forums that changing lanes after the camera works so your in one lane for one set of cameras then in another lane before the other cameras come.
When average speed cameras were being introduced a new Statutory Instrument (SI) was required as the exsiting legislation only covered "fixed" speed limits. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the original SI referred to exceeding the set limit in a "lane". So if you past the first live camera in Lane 1 and the second live camera in Lane 3 you would not have exceeded the set limit in a "lane".
The SI was amended sometime ago and the new camera systems are multi-lane but they still need the photograph which is why just before at least one camera in each direction there is a nice bright light shining across the carriageway.
Also on newer installations motorcycles are not immune as there are both forward and rear facing cameras!0
