  • In my m &s they seem to have a deliberate policy of barely reducing anything, eg, 50p off a £5 steak!! Am pretty certain that it's because they don't want it to sell, but then the staff all get it at ridiculously cheap prices. I've seen on a couple of occasions staff, clearly on days off, pop their heads into the store room then have another member of staff bring it a basket full of reductions for them. I was very interested and terribly nosy the second time and followed one throu the checkut, well, let's just say it was rather more like a £5 steak for 50p!!!

Not saying all stores or even all the staff in my store do this but it certainly happens!!
At the homeless shelter I help in at Christmas, a lot of the food there is donated by M&S - a lot where sell by date is 26th / 27th December - lots of sandwiches, sandwich fillings, bread, cakes, desserts & yogurts, meat, veg etc. I can tell you that it is very much appreciated.

lmao staff have sheets and a reduction policy they have to stick to ie 10% off at a certain time and it gets recorded.....they dont decide what to reduce willy nilly ...........there is also an option for staff to buy items cheaply that cannot be sold to the public due to dates etc....they are not allowed to shop in working hours so righly so they should pop in on their day off!!!!! ....i used to do it when i worked in sainsburys...in fact the more we could p*** off customers who were obviously snooping in our baskets at the 10p bargains the better...as a customer i dont begrudge supermarket staff first nibs at the bargains it makes up for dealing with customers on a daily basis :rotfl:

Is the card a credit card that you collect points with or do M&S do a loyalty card like nectar etc?

Just in case any of you hadn't realised I just noticed it says under the sale item in the delivery and returns bit, its free delivery if you spend £150 if you put in the code.

Just spent over £150 so got free nominated day delivery (using code) worth £4.95. Earliest date available was 4 January. I'm expecting to need to return some items to store as bought some in multiple sizes to try on. Does anyone know whether I will have to pay the £4.95 delivery?

I have 2 M&S food stores near by.
One rarely does reductions, and when it does they are very miserly.... maximum ever is about 50% off, but usually a lot less than that.
Other has absolutely phenomenal reductions - steak and other meats that were £4 and £5 down to 50p.
Gateaux, Christmas sweet lines etc 50p and £1.
Loaves of bread and individual patisserie about 10 and 20p
    Bouquets and plants even 50p.
Think the reductions are down to individual stores/managers.
As to staff getting first chance - why shouldn't they?
If it all went to the staff first, you would be no wiser, so shouldn't bother you anyway.
I know M&S staff who have been made redundant, so I think they are not immune to the recession either.
I have no problem with staff or shelters getting the food - what I find unacceptable is stores throwing out this food, even though they will then make an ever bigger loss, as it is my understanding they are charged extra by the coucils etc for collecting/disposing of this type of waste

They refund you your p and p if you return complete order within so many days. I ordered and did not select nominated delivery and mine has been despatched eta 30th Dec 2011.
  • I ordered on the evening of 24th and 25th and the 2nd order already arrived today.
