No the staff does not get food at ridiculousy cheap prices, how do you know the staff were on their day off? Even if they were they are customers too, and they may have seen the reductions before they started work and had them put by! Items are reduced from the morning for the customers, to have something go down to 50p would be nearing the end of the working day. People get their knickers in such a twist if they dare to think that the staff at M&S are getting all the best buys!! The staff shop for the "staff" is now gone, customers now get offered the reduced items, as for sale items staff have been told they can pick up to 4 items half an hour before the shop opens (if they have time or even working on boxing Day, if they are not then tough!!) Lots left for the poor customers:cool: God forbid staff that they have any"perks"!
hold on i know one store didnt have a staff shop yes previous years they have had staff shops on xmas eve but meat was reduced by 50% on xmas eve at 12 oclock0 -
also the sale stock is garbage i have inside info on stuff going in though0

Any food left that is going out at the end of the day goes into a staff sale (called waste) where staff get everything quarter price (normally). This is kind of the staffs xmas present as christmas and new years waste are always the best, so that is why you wont find much reduced to silly prices because they save them for their staff.
Also you may have got there too late, because staff sale is just after shop closes the stuff starts getting taken off the shelves about an hour or two before close, also m&s have started reducing things in the mornings now so most of it would have been gone by the afternoon.
It is dependent on the store. I think most have got rid of their staff waste shop (except for on Christmas Eve) because it is a lot of effort to do or maybe staff were taking advantage.
Disagree with the bit in bold - they are happy to not reduce stuff to silly prices because if they have a steak at £5 reduced to £4 then they might sell at not much of a different price but if they reduce it to 50p then they will definitely sell it but won't gain very much so it is not really in their interests to reduce things too much which is why they only do it right at the end. There are plenty of people nowadays who are just looking for a bargain and will buy reduced stuff regardless of how much of a reduction it actually is, which is unfortunate for others. The managers are happy for food to get thrown away at the end of the day if it doesn't sell - very wasteful I know. Also staff don't always have time/are told not to do the second reductions. I do get a bit puzzled by people who go into M&S expecting us to have loads of ridiculously cheap and reduced bargainous food all day long - you just have to be lucky with your timing or spend a lot of time waiting for the second reductions.0 -

Exactly food is NOT saved for the staff, if anything is left it goes into the so called waste shop! And this is not even really a waste shop any more as it's so small and people just don't bother going now because nothing is left!.On Christmas Eve there was nothing left for the staff.
A lot of customers, the same people, every day spend a couple of hours waiting going around the store for final reductions ,quiet often fights break out over the bakery:eek: Where they find the time, day after day to do this:cool:.... the same with final reductions/managers on non-foods, you get customers running in the store at opening times.0 -
