Patronising buyer wants refund but will not return item

savagevixen wrote:With due respect when the amount is included in the item, you are not stung at the end of the transaction. Somehow for me £2.99 with free p+p is far more appealing than 99p + £1.99 p+p. My friends and I certainly question why the rates are so high.
I guess people are just different. For me personally, I am more suspicious when I see an item being sold with Free P&P because I know full well that the P&P isn't free, so it feels like I am being deceived. I would much rather know the cost of both the item and the P&P and be able to make my own mind up.
I totally agree that you are allowed to include these costs, but Postage and Packing is postage and packing not postage, packing, travel, bus fare, coffee on the way, snack at the bus stop.
Ah, I see what you mean. I apologise, I thought you were meaning any extra cost beyond the cost of the stamp.0 -
Thankyou nightswimmer- it is better to resolve these mis-understandings!:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0

I'm saying that people who add the price + postage together are more savvy than people who just look at the 99p start price and assume the item is a bargain.
I think it's savvy to steer away from the 99p game with £9.99 postage, personally.
If you would rather pay £2.99 for the item and have free postage, than 99p + £1.99 postage, good for you, but I'd prefer to save the 1p than worry unduly about a couple of quid in the wrong box. I don't delude myself that by paying free, or cheap, postage, that postage cost is being swallowed by the buyer.
And no, I'm not advocating fee avoidance - but you'd be hard pressed to get a listing pulled for excessive postage if it only had £1.99 as the P&P.
No offence savagevixen, but I think we're wrangling over terminology, rather than bad seller practice. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
You are quite right frivolous_fay! I never fall for 'free postage', I mean £2.99 'all in' I never advertise my auctions free postage, but total 'buy it now' item and postge = £**.And to be honest I buy the pre-owned from the shops, as any probs and they can be taken back no hassle! Gave up buying second hand games and dvds of ebay years ago as its never worth it in the end! Sure someone will argue that point but with the price of DVD's and games these days I wouldn't bother myself.
As it happens I have an auction on ebay with the ridiculous postage, as quite frankly I don't want anyone to bid on my auction!!!!!:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -
ooops didn't meen to turn this into a p&p price debate.
Basically i charge £1.99 because i consider there are packing materials to be bought and yes these are usually total to slightly under a pound. I dont sell as regularly as i used to so i now buy my packing materials individually at the post office rather than bulk buy like i used to - i just dont have any space in my house to store lots of different sized packing materials and other stuff.
The other aspect is the fact that depending who is behind the counter at the post office they will put the item through as either 'standard parcels' or 1st class post - this actually causes the price to vary - i dont really understand why there is a difference but im not about to argue with the staff over it. I was finding that the majority of the time they were charging me a min of £1 for a dvd sized (or smaller in-fact) package. Sometimes it was more, obviously if it slightly heavier or bigger etc. What i am basically saying is i take a rough guess at how much the p&p is realistically going to cost in total and that is what i list. And yes sometimes i have been caught out and have to pay extra myself for packing and sending items so i never aim to keep the money myself. I personally think i am doing everything correct here - why should i have to pay the excess on the majority of items i send out? Espacially when the items barely sell for much anyway. That just doesnt make sense to me.
And who on earth will bid if i say 'I'll tell you what the P&P will cost when i get to the post office''. Thats crazy!
I cant understand why people would complain to this - if you wish to complain then bloody come and get the item yourself or more simply just DON'T BID! I dont think it is that difficult to understand.
And no i dont advocate fee avoidance either - if i want cheaper fees i will wait for a cheap listing day - simple!
I had a look and the same game i actually listed, a good 80% of the listings are charging more P&P than i do so he was prob gonna have a whinge at whoever he bought from - silly man!Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -

But to a seller there are ebay FVF fees to pay on the item final value, but not on P&P.
Free P&P means the seller pays more fees in FVF.It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

approx postage 80p,jiffy bag 50p, can only get to post once a week, bus fare really high etc etc
I would be far more likely to bid! It's all nonsense really, but some seller do bump the p+P just to get a few extra quid to cover there FVF etc. Happy ebaying it is all good fun!:T:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -

I totally agree. Far more reasonable than the P&P prices on the shopping channel for example "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Then they deduct his postage for purchaser returning your item.
Really? Will Paypal work out how much it cost to return the item and then refund that to the buyer? How will they know? do they assume first class or second class?
The experience i had were i raised a paypal claim because an item was not as described Paypal did not refund any return postage costs to me...0
