    Looks like I need a Kenwood as well as a Magimix:D That really isn't helpful to the OP is it?:rotfl:

    I don't use my Magimix a great deal preferring to chop by hand as a general rule. However when I want to chop up a huge amount of veg for my 'veg-hash' it is the business. Or, when I want to turn the breadcrust mountain into bread crumbs. I really don't use it for much else tbh. I wouldn't want to be without it though.

    I've been reading a lot of American bread recipes lately and they all seem to make use of a food mixer :think: I like the look of Kitchenaids ;)

    I'm watching a second hand Kenwood on ebay at the moment. Hopefully, I will be able to get it a not too much cost. I probably wont keep it out on the worktop, as I don't have the work surfaces to keep it out permanently but have plenty of cupboard space. I think I might consider buying a magimix to keep out, as I think it would get well used in my kitchen...... but I'll see how I go with the Kenwood first as I do a fair amount of baking, especially at Christmas time, when all the relatives expect a few batches :rolleyes: Think I might be the only one who does any baking in my family! :D

    I used to have a Kenwood and sold it when I realised that we didn't need so many cakes etc and could do with more chopped veg, so got a Magimix . The Kenwood is definitely better if you bake a lot (a Magimix will overbeat cakes if you aren't careful, and you can't do fruit cakes very easily as it'll chop the fruit into little bits rather than mix it). When I recently acquired a granddaughter I wished I still had the Kenwood so I got a secondhand 901 on e bay, and every now and then I use it for baking nice things. I think kenwoods are wonderful for hand bread making (as opposed to a breadmaker) and cakes, but magimixes are wonderful for chopping veg, meat, pastry, crumbles etc. BUT the Magimix bowl and lid are hideous to wash up - all twiddly bits of plastic (and I don't like to put it in the dishwasher) you can be sure it was designed by a bloke who never washed up. I don't think they are the same things at all, and if I were starting again I'd get a Magimix I think and a cheap kenwood from e bay, but that's because I don't very often bake and we do eat huge quantities of chopped sliced etc veg which you can do in a moment in the Magimix. It just depends what you cook more of !

    i have no idea about either, i have never heard of magimix so would trust kenwood more. im saving up for an food processor, just curious how much are these anyway, either one? :)

    They are very expensive, a Kenwood Chef is around £350 and a Magimix is about £200. They are apparently the best though and will last you a long time. I had a cheaper food processor and it was ok but couldn't really cope with the amount of use that I wanted it for and gave up after about 3 months! I have just got a second hand Kenwood Chef 901 and it cost me £60.00, so I will give it a whirl and report back once I've given it a bit of test.

    For our wedding anniversary DH wants to buy me something for the kitchen that I really want/ need

    I was thinking of going for the kenwood chef but then read the forum about the Magimix and now I am torn between the two

    So finally I thought, I would take advice from you lovely ladies :A

    I regularly do the following so think Kenwood would be the best choice for these

    Kneading dough for Naan/ Chapati
    Cake Mixes
    Pureeing Soups
    Make Smoothies

    But then I would need to buy another attachment for the following (I also do these regularly)

    Chopping/ Slicing Onions
    Grating Cheese (Parmesan/ Cheddar)
    Julienned carrots and other veg for Stir fry

    So what should I go for ????

    The models that I am looking for are

    Kenwood Chef KM560
    Magimix 4200

    If I do buy Kenwood (I love this beauty), which attachments would you recommend?

    If I buy Magimix, would it do nice elastic dough?

  • I don't know about the magimix but I have a Kenwood Chef Premier which came from Costco, I think it was about £180 - comes with a glass liquidiser. I then have the high speed slicer which clips on the top and is great for chopping things (I'm not sure about julienne carrots you'd need to check).

    We've also got the mincer/sausage making attachment which is great - I've just made chicken burgers out of an odd chicken breast I found lurking in the freezer.

    I love my Kenwood so it's possible that I may be slightly biased :D

    I've had a kenwood chef and sold it at a car boot because I found all the attachments too cumbersome to store, plus I rarely used it.

    I have just very recently bought a Magimix from ebay and I pretty much use it daily. Love it for chopping veg, slicing, I've made my first 'mince' from meat so I know exactly whats in my mince. Done cake mixes, grated veg, soup, chopped salad, all sorts. I love it.

    I also have a Kenwood Patissier but its fairly redundant now so that may have to be ebayed.

    My magimix stays on the worktop and is really easy to use and clean.

    In fact I've just chopped some mushrooms up on the slice attachemnt for bacon and mushroom butties and later I'll be chopping a job lot of onions and then freezing them for convenience.:D

    Mines a 4100, an older model but large enough for our needs.

    I've had a Kenwood Chef for years and wouldn't be without it, but recently I got my first food processor and now I wouldn't be without that either. I think the food processor makes better pastry than the Chef. Both of mine live on the worktop and both get used regularly.

    Does it have to be a Magimix? If you have space for two gadgets, you could get both. Buy a Kenwood Chef (shop around and get a good deal obviously) and then buy a less expensive food processor than a Magimix. I got this one (it was a tenner cheaper when I bought it) and I'm thrilled to bits with it.
