    Thanks for your replies ladies.

I am possibly a little bit on the lazy side, so want it to do as much as possible. I get a bit put off kneading bread by hand because of all the mess i seem to make when I'm doing it flour everywhere

I would definately go for the Kenwood Chef because it does seem to be better for cake mixing, kneading etc, but a lot of the other posts I've read seem to suggest the food processor attachment is not great. The sausage making attachment sounds very interesting though :rotfl:

Gosh, I think I may keep going round and round with this, can never decide on anything me :o must be a Libran thing. :D

After less than a year :naughty: I've had my Kenwood for nearly 17 years and it's still going strong. I love it and use it at least once a week, and have recently bought a sausage making attachment - bet you don't have one of them, do you thrifty :p:p:p

Not yet :D Does the Kenwood chop as well as mix?

Well the battle lines certainly seem to have been drawn. I think I must have found the one issue that splits the old stylers :rotfl:

    I shall await further debate.....:T

Having burned out my parents Kenwood(20 years old), I bought myself another one, which came with the food processor and liquidiser. I use it just about everyday and it just the job for grating carrots etc(make lots of soup), I would be lost without mine. I also used to make dough(pizza bases) in it.

    Hi jen,

    I think I'd go for the kenwood...sorry thriftlady. :p

This earlier thread (which includes links to more threads on the same subject) may help you to decide:

Food Processor or Mixer: Magimix or Kenwood

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the recommendations together.

Hang on, I don't want a fight :), I've got nothing against Kenwoods. I was only giving my opinion of the Magimix because that's what I have. I've never used a Kenwood but I'm sure I'd love it if I had one. I'm not clear though, whether they chop food like a food processor or whether they're just for mixing?

Now, if you want to do battle over the merits of slow cookers and breadmakers then I'm your woman:D

Thanks Pink-Winged, I have read the other post you linked to but I am still undecided. Its probably good advice to try ebay for a second hand one and I am very jealous of the person who managed to get a Kenwood Chef at the car boot for £8.50:T

    Fellow Libran wades in

Not that at all. You are trying to choose between two alternatives therefore you must weigh the evidence carefully and make value judgements based on what you want the appliance for. Librans think before acting. Others act before thinking. But my Mum always says that, once my mind is made up it's made up! You want to make the right decision so are evaluating carefully. Fools rush in and all that..

    An admirable quality IMHO

(It's fun in Valliland - two Librans and an Aquarian (all air signs!)...no wonder the Ram wandered off LOL)

The Holy Grail of one machine that does everything well doesn't exist, does it? I'm a Kenwood girl, but I bought before the days of the Internet when I had never heard of Magimix. When I needed to replace my Moulinex food processor I couldn't afford a Magimix or I may have had a foot in both camps! (Wish I could have got one because the food processor that I did get is a pain - should have known better than to get one endorsed by that "You are what you eat" woman - and has a huge footprint.)

I would say that for baking, especially bread dough kneading a Kenwood is the way to go, but I have no experience of the food processor attachment as it wouldn't fit my 25 year or so old Chef which has been used 2-3 times a week. Even a Kenwood Major won't do more than 2.4 kg of flour for bread at one go, and a Chef about 1.3-1.5 kg depending on the model, and they seem to perform better not quite at the limit or you do get the juddering across the worktop syndrome.

Just seen your question, thriftlady, and no, they don't chop, although there is are slicing/shredding attachments available, and the more modern ones can have a food processor attachment. All £££s extra of course! (Still with you on the breadmaker, but as you know I do have a slowcooker and a Remoska!)
