  • I have the kenwood, I think when you have bought one you have it for life. I recently had it serviced, the man told me that you can always get kenwood parts but Kitchenaid are hard to come by.

    Can you define mixer please?

We have the James Martin hand mixer - it's brilliant!

We bought it when DD2 signed up to do Food Tech GCSE 3 years ago and it has done everything we ask of it!

I have a hand mixer, I want a mixer with interchangeable dough hook, beater, whisk etc. One that sits above the bowl that you don't have to hold :)

I think I will look at Kenwood then, thanks.
    Which model do you have?
  • I have the Kenwood Prospero, and I adore it. Good for a compact space too :)

  • I think it depends what you need to use it for. I have a basic hand mixer, which does 95% of what I need for 5% of the cost of a Kenwood or Kitchenaid. I still want one, but it's hard for me to justify the cost difference based on those percentages.

I'm sure one of the BGs will be along with some more links, but here's a couple to get you started:

    Kitchen Aid vs Kenwood
    Food mixer/processor
    Which Kenwood to get?

For what it's worth, I ended up narrowing down my choice to the Kenwood Chef Titanium. This was based on my needs, machine specs and reviews plus the available accessories should I want to use them in the future. But still trying to justify the price to myself!

I have ms, but love cooking, baking, making bread etc.
I want something that has a range a features......kneading, whisking, beating etc. Not too bothered about chopping etc as I have a food processor.

I understand what you mean about the cost
I can justify up to £200, but any more is too much.
  • I have the kitchen aid and my mum has the kenwood. I love my KA it's faband makes baking etc so much easier. I have to say it has saved me so much money. I now make all of my own bread with the dough hook, wraps, cakes, biscuits etc. I also make butter with left over cream. I have also made soap in mine. I know all of it I could make by hand but it saves me so much time and I have more energy for other things.

I have had a play with mums kenwood and I just wasn't impressed - no offense to anyone who has one but it just didn't seem as sturdy and that it was going to last forever. I have had my KA for 3 years and is used 3 x a day at least and I have had no problems at all.
    £370/£300 April challenge :T:T
  • I have a Kenwood Chef Major which I got on special offer at the end of November to replace my ancient Kenwood Chef. I love it, it does my bread dough, cake mixes, makes butter, batter, milkshakes, smoothies and I have just purchased the ice cream making attachment, which was a real indulgence, but my OH and the kids are ice cream addicts. You can get all sorts of other bits for it, but the only things I really have my eye on is the pasta machine, which I will also use for rolling icing for cakes. I also use a hand blender which has a whisk attachment for things that cleaning the KW would be too much hassle to justify.

I know I've said this before on another thread somewhere, but in all the college and restaurant kitchens I've been in, I've seen quite a few Kenwood mixers but never a Kitchen Aid. My old boss said they did have a Kitchen Aid at one point but they burnt it out very quickly with heavy use. (They do also have the big professional Hobart mixers but they're not so great for smaller quantities.)

My mum's Kenwood has been going since the 1970s and is still working as good as ever, and mine is about six years old and has taken a battering (it gets used several times a week for large amounts of bread dough etc) and I can't see it giving up any time soon. If it did die (which I can't see happening any time soon) I'd go straight out and buy another one.

Mine is a 700 watt model, by the way, and was at the bottom of the price range. You could have a look on Ebay for a used one.
