I've just replaced a 40year old Kenwood Chef with a Kenwood K-Mix and I'm loving it. It has the retro look of the Kitchen Aid but with the history and reputation Kenwood have, I'm staying loyal

I admit I love the look of the Kitchen Aid but if you're right handed, the controls aren't as user friendly on the Kitchen Aid
  • I dream of a kitchen aid.
I want one for my wedding.
They are expensive, but last forever, my aunt has hers since her wedding 30 years ago.

I have ms, but love cooking, baking, making bread etc.
I want something that has a range a features......kneading, whisking, beating etc. Not too bothered about chopping etc as I have a food processor.

I understand what you mean about the cost
I can justify up to £200, but any more is too much.

Your last line pretty much rules out the Kitchenaid, they start at £300 for the basic model and are closer to £400 for the Artisan line.

The Kenwood Chef Classic might suit your needs, and is usually around £170 at Amazon. Should be more information in one of the links I posted earlier, plus I know there's a huge Kenwood thread floating around here somewhere.

I have the Kenwood K-Mix too and I love it. Not had it long so I am still experimenting but so far so good. It looks fantastic left out too.
  • I have had the Kitchen Aid mixer for a few years and I feel rather guilty in saying that I don't love it. It really is a very good mixer but I find that all it's other attachements (slicer, grinder, etc) are really quite rubbish whereas my mum's generic 198os food processor can slice, dice, mix and blend. Very tempted by a Kenwood FP980 Multi Pro Excel Food Processor as it would replace the Kitchen Aid plus attachments and my blender. However, I shall resist as £300 is scary when I can just do things by hand. I may invest when I'm cooking for a family rather than just me and OH though.
  • I have the Kenwood K-mix and it is great.

  • Hello,

I've got the Kenwood chef premier and I bloomin love it.

    1. It comes with a flexi-beater attachment so it scrapes the cake mix from around the sides as it goes, so none of my cake mix gets left unmixed.

    2. It has a plastic cover to stop flour/icing sugar going up in a cloud when it's mixing, everything is contained.

    3. It's going to last forever (or atleast a few decades) as my Mum's one has...

I have the Kenwood Chef and love it. My mum still has her one and it's older than me, and i'm almost 43 - and she still uses it every week. I wanted one for years, and eventually bought one last year. Wish i'd had it years ago!
  • My dh bought me a Kenwood Prospero for Christmas and I love it. It is nice and compact and it has the blender and food processor attatchments which is great. I would love a big Kenwood Chef but have neither the money nor the space for one sadly. I love the look of the Kitchenaid ones, they are very 'retro' looking I think. Far too expensive for me though :p

I think that as others have said, you need to think about your needs, what are you going to use it for, how much can you spend and how much space do you have.

Just in case anyone else has a prospero and is after a cover for it (Kenwood don't make one for this model ), I found a lady on ebay who makes them to measure and I love mine.

Hi Jane, I was looking at the Prospero as I don't really have much work surface to spare!
Does it cope with kneading bread?
I have seen it here which seems a lot cheaper http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000101922/kenwood-prospero-compact-stand-mixer.aspx
