  • Another Chef fan here, although if I'd had the money I would have bought a Kitchen Aid in British Racing Green :D

I love my Chef and we have the mincer and high speed chopper to go with it. On reflection, I think I'm glad that I couldn't afford the KA, it was only the colour that I was after and the attachments are more expensive than the Kenwood.

I also have the Premier, it's usually well priced in Costco if you have access to one. I found John Lewis had a good selection of models on show so that you can see the differences. Personally, I felt that the entry level white model felt a bit plasticky which is why I went for the Premier.

  • I have found it copes fine, it moves around a bit but it's managing ok. That is a really good price. Dh found mine just before Christmas on Amazon for £111 with their free delivery so it's worth keeping a look out. I think if I was making bigger batches of bread daily I might have considered a Chef instead but tbh I quite like doing the kneading part by hand as I find it therapeutic ;) I should add I used it on one of the lowest settings for a heavy dough. This is my first big mixer though, others might be able to offer more advice on this.

  • I did toy with getting a Chef but space wouldn't allow so got a Kenwood Prospero instead. Really pleased with it, the mixer is really good, and the food processor and blender are also handy, and the unit doesn't take up vast amounts of space in the kitchen. Bought it before Christmas when Amazon had them on offer and haven't regretted it.

I have 2 food processors for chopping/grating etc. (love my Magimix) If you just want a machine to knead bread, I have found that a basic hand mixer with dough hooks works great and at less than a fiver from wilkinsons...why spend lots of "dough"?
I prefer to knead my bread with a hand mixer using the dough hooks as I use a larger bowl so can knead 2 loaves worth as opposed to just 1 loaf in the Magimix.

I've inherited a Kenwood Chef, its a 1950s model and is currently being restored. I can't wait to have it back!

I couldn't imagine myself having anything but a Kenwood in my kitchen.

    Hi All,

Think this is probably the most sensible board for this, by all means correct me if I'm wrong.

I was walking home from a night out the other day when I spotted someone had thrown out an old MagiMix Cuisine System 4000.

now, these Magimix's are rather expensive, so I thought I'd cart it home to see ifI could fix it/work out what was wrong with it.

From initial investigations, it would appear simply that the bowl/lid assembly is damaged and therefore will not operate the safety lockout. I can purchase another one for about £55. A new blade unit (not required but the current one is a bit manky) would be another £35. I've checked the motor runs OK and it does indeed (once the safety interlocked is depressed manually!)

I don't currently have a food processor, but do know the magimix ones are pretty good.

Do you think I should fix this one up (at the very least appeals to the make do/mend mentality!), or should I just ebay it for spares/repairs and buy a £50 brand new (but potentially a bit cheap and nasty) kenwood?

Fixing this one sounds like a bargain to me :) You might want to look atthis thread comparing Magimix and Kenwood; I'll merge this later.

Thank you for everyone's help :)
I have bought a new Kenwood Chef Premier off ebay.
The size difference didn't seem much between the chef & the prospero, I probably won't leave it out anyway.

Can't wait to get it now :j

That's the one i've got. :) If you do decide to leave it out, I got a really lovely sheep cover from eBay. I bought one from the same lady, with cupcakes on it for my sister's Kenwood, as we leave ours out all the time.

They're really well made. I don't know her btw. :p Just posted incase you were interested. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/pigs99/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

I hope you have many happy years with your mixer.
  • jackie did you have to post those? I have been looking for a cover, never thought of Ebay, I have seen 3 I like, do you think I can justify buying all 3? :rotfl:
