As a former member of staff (driver) Id have to say you clearly have a VERY unreasonable view on the matter and probably do not realise how fundamental the system is to everything. Total system failure, means handsets cannot be used, all staffing requirements are done by computer meaning the system knows roughly how much labour is needed for orders made that day.

At which point I am bound to ask, wheres the contingency solution. Wheres the IT backups?

    Unless they don`t exist...

Hey! If you are going to get all aggressive, at least try to spell your abuse correctly! And just for your information: each store has a maximum of 20 slots, so 20 calls don't take that long. NOT hundreds (the calls come directly from the store involved). I'm so, so sorry that Sainsburys are under pressure to deliver their orders: I'll try ordering from someone who doesn't think it's such a HUGE task in future.

And for your information, I AM unable to get out and get the shopping myself, otherwise I would have done just that.

I was merely saying that Sainsburys need to organise themselves properly: At least put something on the website to help people. I suggest you go rant elsewhere. :T

And i suggest you get your facts right. As a picker here goes 20 slots is not 20 deliveries. 20 slots is (in our store) 7 vans per slot. 7 vans is between 6 and 7 deliveries per van,

We pick for more than one shopper at a time, we have Teampads (a computer) that tells us what to pick, which customer wants it, if it needs bagging and the substitute the customer requires if the original item is not there. No teampad means no picking - SIMPLES !!. xx
Wins in 2013 - Jan - Heinz No Noise Ketchup.

i guess i was one of the lucky ones and my order was manually picked today....the subs were a bit ropey and i ended missing some of my shopping after the delivery guy had gone, but he came back in his own car 2 hours later with the missing bags.

If the OP had the same attitude on the phone as on here, I'm not surprised they were "unable" to pick his order manually...

Sorry if i seem agressive but people like you think the world revolves around you and it gets on my nerves.

You are arguing with me about things i know about and you know nothing of. Are you for real??? so you have a delivery at 2-3 and you think that theres only 20 customers that day prior to you?? really. Im not sure what you mean by 20 slots, its doesnt make alot of sense, as if you are talking about that hour or that day then thats just accounting for one van no doubt,, isnt that obvious? times that by 9 times or however many vans you have at your local store. And then theres the fact the staff have to deal with people such as yourself over the phone which means phones calls are not simple and quick. And if you are honestly disables they would have picked and delivered your shopping at some point today (dont try and say they refused because they wouldnt simple as). You obviously did not make them aware of that (and i know your going to say you did) but simple, if you are disabled and the food is life or death and you said that they would deliver at the drop of a hat, youd be a priority.

And to the person asking about contingency plans, the system gets fixed as soon as it can be. Theres not much you can do, except deal with as many customers as possible and pick it manually. All customers with late shopping should get 10 pound vouchers which will ofcourse cost the company a fortune.

It's not as if the system is failing all the time. Installing redundant parallel systems would cost even more - which would probably have to be paid for in increased charges. Do you really want to pay more for 100% reliable delivery times?

They probably have such systems already - at least to some extent but there is always a weak point.

What happens when you are in a fly-by-wire aircraft and the system that mediates the multiple command and control systems fails?
