Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 16th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all! Up early here due to OH snoring and Zorro cat deciding to join me on my pillow - he has the loudest purrrrr. Its unusual that the cats have free rein at night as I shut them in - all due to OH being home! Last night was DS1s school play - he was Santa, but due to his behaviour in school in the day time he was told not to come back for his play. Upsetting (although he wasn't outwardly overly bothered) but I can appreciate their point - why should one spoil it for the rest - and I have always taken that line.

Fire lit and hopefully it is drying washing that is on the airer in front of it - not too close. BM on yesterday so we're OK for bread, washing done - just one more load to catch up with. Presents all wrapped, Cards all sent, Christmas decs mostly up - christmas tree still to find in garage! Just back from the trip of a lifetime to Lapland with the boys and I now SOOOO believe in Santa. It was fab - hope I get a stocking this year as I've been very good.

Dinner will be something out of the freezer as I did a stock take yesterday so now I know what I have! Always helps I think!! Hugs to those in need and love to everyone.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

  • Morning esmf & all who follow
Glad you had a good time in Lapland esmf.
JackieO, I hope your arm improves.
    Welcome back Mooloo.
I have driven past that place so many times Bramble but never been in, I need chocolate like Mother Hubbard needed more children.
BB, I've added a couple more rag wreaths to my blog
I spent an hour yesterday consoling a colleague who is struggling to cope at work, I don't really know what to say, she is constantly in trouble for not doing her work, but refuses to learn how to use her PC properly, prefering to do everything on paper in triplicate 1st & then putting on the PC in chunks every holiday having lost half the paperwork. We are also looking to promote someone within the team to Team Leader & she feels it should be her as she's been there longest, she's devastated that she hasn't even been offered the job or even an interview. I must remember to take another box of tissues to work as I am running low, my office is divided into 2 with a sliding door between, I had 3 people in there yesterday in tears, oh the joys of Christmas.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good Morning everyone arm is improving slightly by the day as the anti-bios start to kick in.I had to get a repeat prescrition ordered yesterday from the Drs as I have to keep a course indoors at all times to start the minute it flares up.Trying to explain to the lady receptionist that Yes I was taking them at the moment, and No I wouldn't carry on taking more when I got them was a bit of a chore but I think I got through in the end.The ones I am taking at the moment I have had in stock indoors since June and I know that the minute it starts to flare up I must start on them immediately or I end up in hospital on a drip.Far too expensive for the NHS and timewasting as well.I spent a good 40 minutes explaining this to her yesterday. She then asked why it becomes infected and I have no idea why it just flares up for no apparent reason and if the Drs don't know there is no reason why I should understand lymphodema. All I know is it makes you feel rotten and is a blooming nuisance, but at least I am still here to moan about it which is something I suppose.

I am up with the larks this morning as its my gorgeous grandson Ben's 16th birthday and I will be round to his house by 7.30 this morning to catch him before he goes to school with a bag of pressies for him.Ben and Jack finish at 12.30 today and are walking to my house from school for bangers and chips for lunch then we have to pick Henry and Mikey up from junior school at 3.30.Mikey has his nativity this morning at church so I have to be there by 10.15 at the latest to get a good seat to see him as a shepard and pronounce his line 'Here sheep come and see the baby' I think I have heard it with almost every inflection possible in the past month and he is very proud.Mum and Dad sadly have to be at work so I shall be waving the family flag.
Tonight I shall stay to dinner with the tribe as there tradition on birthdays is for the recipient to choose whats for dinner on their birthday .Last night DD was frantically making a chocolate cake and icing it at 10.30 and trying to find a place to stash it out of sight of the birthday boy.Bless her she has five kids and does a fulltime job but still makes their birthday cakes for them and makes their birthdays special to each one.Its her birthday on Monday she is 42 and is a real little grafter bless.I may take them all out to a meal as she has managed to get Monday off as she is owed some time and has to use it up before the end of the month.I had already bought her a combined birthday/Christmas present that she wanted of a coat but I have still got her some odds and ends for her to open up on Monday .She is such a smashing lady and is always ready to help out if she can Last Monday when I ended up in bed with this rotten arm the minute she got home from work at 6.30 she rang and asked how I was and as I hadn't eaten anything as I wasn't hungry she said I'll be round in 10 and sure enough she arrived with soup and sympathy and wouldn't leave until I had eaten it and a piece of toast and she filled a bottle for me (I was only able to use one arm so filling one was impossible)She also made me a flask of coffee to put by my bed and sent Ben for some Lucozade from the local shop ,and she had been at work since 8 that morning and it was gone 7 before she left my house and hadn't even had her own dinner. She is an absolute diamond and I don't know what I'd do without her.I am very lucky that both of my DDs are close by and are very good in emergency's.
So today is going to be a busy one and tomorrow I am hopefully off to london to see my eldest DDs family as her pa-in-law is 80 on Sunday and we're having a bit of a small family 'do' for him on Saturday night. He has been given an Ipad and gets on very well with it.He is an amazing chap for his age and I get on well with his wife Margaret we will sit and sort the world out I expect.
Right time I got a wriggle on and had some coffee and breakfast as I can't wait to see our lovely ben on his birthday
Have a great day everyone what ever you are doing and <<hugs>> to those who are feeling down or blue
    Take care JackieO xxx

    P.S.
A great big Happy Birthday to Nelski as she is my adopted DD from the Blackpool meet, great lady who knows the value of a bottle of wine at 2.00.a.m. we had a whale of a time with so much laughter

Yes, this is really me. I hate computers. Mine has developed a mind of its own and when I am in the middle of something decides that I should actually be doing something else and switches me over to it.
When I try to post a reply it makes me log in again and all my thanks etc. have disappeared.:mad::mad:
So - to everyone who posts today, please consider yourself thanked by me.
I have done about a third of my cards and am absolutely determined to finish them, and wrap parcels for posting today. I have a meeting at 9.30 so am off to do Tescos shopping in a minute.

esmf: You wouldn't like to come and live with me, would you? I have never known anyone so organised.:D

I'm holding me breath waiting for this post to disappear so won't push my luck too hard.

I know some people have a difficult day today, massive hugs to you all.

What am I eating today? Heaven only knows.

    Morning everyone

Thank you all for the hugs and thoughts, I have read but not posted.

My thoughts today are with Jackie G and her family xxxx

I tried to go back to work on Wednesday but couldn't, have been to Drs and she has signed me off till after Christmas.

Today I am going to do some HW! nothing has been done for the last week so I am going to have a real blitz. Can't wait for OH to get back tonight.

Tomorrow I have a hair appointment, I was going to cancel it, but then I thought I want to look smart for my Dad so I will be going to it. Then I spose I will have to dye it to cover the grey:eek: not sure what colour though.

Oh and by the way, I still haven't had a cigarette, have felt like having one, but have not given in! so thats 78 days now :)

Hugs and special thoughts for those in need.

    cyas soon xxx

    Good Morning!

I have a good night last night (only up once)!!

Today we are going to my mum's to swap gifts (they are going away for two weeks), then DS is staying at his dad's for the weekend!

Tomorrow is clean the house day, and I will be at the church (they are flower arranging for Christmas) trying to get new recruits for our rota. Then I have a friend visiting.

Sunday is Church, then off to deliver gifts before watching DS is a nativity at the Church he goes to when he's at his dads :)

DH is getting all jittery about the baby (as I am days from being 'term') and I had a few Braxton Hicks this morning, but I didn't tell him, but one was uncomfortable and he noticed... so I have to go buy some baby changing mats to sit on in the car/house today, it'll put his mind to rest about one thing :)

I am also popping to Iceland to buy a 'Ready Meal' for when we get home with the baby (It's high GI so I am not allowed it... but once the baby is born... it won't hurt as a one off!), this is the only food planning I have made. I have no desire to fill my freezer up with HM Ready Meals, because I have no idea how my appitite will change when the baby is here! So who knows what I can and can't eat!

Plus DH is a good cook, and will make sure we don't do the 'takeaway' thing... hence the ready meal though... as a cheaper alternative :)

Anyway, hope everyone has a good day :)

Ps. Bargainbird I got the books from Smiths online >> Hairy Bikers V2 & Grandma's Best Recipies: New Collection (I have the first one and really liked it... so cross fingers the second is as good)
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

    Morning all............

arrived home on wed. after 8 days in the uk at my parents and a great time was had by all! I'm sure my parents are missing the hustle, bustle and noise that my 3 grown up children made!!! Mum and dad were so pleased they wanted to celebrate mums 80th birthday with her and I too had the best time with all 3 of as its been a long time since I spent a whole week with all 3 of them.......

We had a lovely family meal on the sat. at a Italian restaurant that we all love......The 5 grandchildren were together fo the first time in years so we took lots of photos and posed them in the same way as they were when they were small!!!

seeing as we dont celebate xmas here my kids were real excited to see everything christmassy there and were as excited as if they were small.seeing all the decorations and looking out for lit up houses on our journney home in the evenings..... My parents even surprised them by putting up their xmas tree early[ for them] when we arrived home from London on the sunday.

And the shopping!!!!! my kids love Bluewater and its very close to my parents .I think we were there 3 times:eek: My 2dds couldnt get enough of it........ I thought there was a recession and couldn't believe the people there spending ,spending spending......!!!!!

Am so jealous of your shops....M and S is my favoutite......but paperchase, the body shop, boots, and more!!!!!! did I mention m&s and poperchase?!!:T.... I even went into cath Kidson but wow the prices!!
We all had great fun packing I can tell you it was a real stuggle apart from ds who had room in his bag which was lucky for me.......
ds bought back 9 tins of Heinz spag to take to the army to eat!!!! spag and meatballs, spag bol and macaroni cheese in a can...all things we dont have here!!!! I did bring back a tin of golden syrup so I can make Twinks as they should be made!

Well thats enough for now,,,hope everyone is well, need to have a look at the last couple of days here....so will send send general hugs, spoons and positive vibes to all.... Have a great friday everyone!!!!!!

In my calendar - Father Christmas :xmassmile

mrs_mix, I'm glad you posted, I was wondering how your hospital appointment went

For the last three years, I've bought the Soap & Glory bargain for Christmas for me and Miss tru. Today I was going to nip into town at 8am today to buy two of the Big Splendour (£60 down to £25). But I'm really disappointed with it this year, neither of us will use about half of it. So I'll be buying the things we will use on 3 for 2 instead.

I'll be out for most of the day. I have a 'spend at least £40, get £20 off' voucher for the wholesaler, and 'spend at least £40 get £25 off' for Morrisons. I hate going into town so we'll do that first to get it out of the way.
