  • Just checked my email from Priority Club and the link in it, which includes Crowne Plaza, is still not working - so much for them rewarding loyalty.
  • Call me bitter if you want but… I strongly believe IHG have advertised an offer that couldn’t be taken as per their terms. If you followed the link in the email they sent you couldn’t take advantage of the offer and when you contacted them via telephone at 00.01 (as clearly advertised) you couldn’t take advantage of the offer. I fully accept that people could book via telephone later in the day and online via a link (as mention on this message board) but you still couldn’t use the link they sent via email.

I have fully explained this to Consumer Direct and although IHG did eventual allow people to take advantage of the offer, and despite there being no binding contact between myself and IHG, they still believe they have breached the Consumer Protection Regulations. Due to this possible breach they have launched a case and passed it onto Trading Standards to investigate.

If anyone else feels IHG have not provided the offer as advertised perhaps you’d also like to contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.

    Hi all,

I managed to get Kensington Forum, London! Wasn't following this board, but kept an eye on the website, and as the deals weren't showing up, I gave a call on the 0870 number. I mentioned the Winter Offer, and they booked me in! My first choice was London Mayfair, but they didn't have rooms for the night I wanted (26th).

    Regards
  • Just logged a call with Consumer Direct re: Holiday Inn £20.12 debacle - real easy to do, more notifications they receive the more likely they are to do something about it - don't hesitate - call 0845 04 05 06 (select option 3) and get your experience logged - even if you were eventually successful in booking a room!

Why was it a debacle? Yes, the offer was late starting and rooms in the best parts of London were predictably thin on the ground, but plenty of people have been able to book rooms for £20.12. There have been plenty of internet offers that have worked worse.

So you didn't get what you wanted because of IHG's crappy web-site and you're pursuing it further?

What do you want from the outcome- a Free room? Some sort of $$$ ?

Move on and put this down to experience

IHG did this sale last year at the same time and it was not as messy but it was far from perfect. Their IT has never been the best and communication between marketing and their Call centre is I believe NIL.

This was a genuine offer that was badly executed, however lots of people got the cheap rooms-

    You didn't.

    Live with it

    BTW
I also failed to get what I wanted due to their incompetence-no biggy.

From my point of view .....

    ..... Wasn't live & on-line at the time stated
..... Wasn't available on the link provided by MSE (may have been later in day)
..... Call Centre number is 0871 - a number used to generate significant profits (i.e. the average GP in the UK makes £200k+ out of 0845 numbers which are cheaper - NHS GP's have now been banned from using this type of number)
..... Called 0871 number at 7 min past midnight - answered immediately - spoke to an operative overseas - best central London room was £186 - no details of £20.12 offer - said computers not in same time zone as UK (we are GMT or ZULU Time !) - should be live in 1 hour (interesting comment as she had said she didn't know there was a £20.12 offer!) try again in 1 hour when the offer will be live - if correct this would put their corporate IT infrastructure in the Azores! Note, IHG has a UK (Denham, Buckinghamshire) Global HQ
..... Logged in after 1am - still no rooms - any location (I tried all over the UK to check availability) - stayed on-line for around 15 minutes
..... Called the 0871 number again ..... a US based operator answered ..... very helpful ..... knew all about the offer ..... no rooms at any of the central London hotels at the £20.12 rate ..... offered Elstree on date requested (booked)
..... Stayed on-line till gone 2am and didn't find any rooms ANYWHERE for £20.12 offer
..... 8am back on-line ..... saw forum postings since 2am and was pleased to see others had had some success, but not all
..... If you go through the postings, you will see evidence of successful bookings at central London hotels - some of which were not listed on the HI website as being on offer

In my view IHG Holiday Inn could have done a much better job ..... used UK time (as I guess the offer was pitched primarily at UK customers) ..... used operators in UK call centres ..... offered all rooms at all locations on all available dates for £20.12, the only restriction being 35,000 rooms (when they're gone, theyre gone)

I know they could have done a much better job - especially as (and it is obvious) they have a mindset which encourages their employees to believe they are the best of the best !

I've raised the matter with Consumer Direct - I hope enough people complain for IHG to realise they have screwed up!

Online sales are always hit with IT issues and if you are lucky then great, if not maybe better luck next time. Holiday Inn had the £20.12 rates available on the 21st Dec if you knew where to look. That is a whole day after the promotion was supposed to have ended.

Will complaints also be made after Travelodge, Tune Hotels or the even more frustrating £1 Hoxton Hotel sales?

I got an executive suite for £20.12 - so even better than I expected - I thought it would just be standard rooms! (ok, it wasn't available at 0.01....but certainly worth the wait).

Lke the above poster has said its been the same with The Hoxton, Tune, Andaz....the list goes on - but they have a clause that says "subject to availability" which covers virtually everything that could go wrong.....!
  • I also managed to blag 1 night at The Regents Park Holiday Inn on Boxing Day. I booked it on the website in my break at work around 3 in the afternoon.
