Hello!
I switched in October & here's how it goes. I switched HSBC to Halifax.
1) You have the let the AATS (transfer) team transfer all of your direct debits and standing orders. They will then cancel them on the old account.
2) They do not however close the old account.
3) You have to pay in £1000 each month (not be in credit by it at the end of the month)
4) You have to choose between a high interest rate, or cashback on purchases.
5) They give you a £2000 overdraft for 4 months to ensure you don't go overdrawn unauthorised. This is because the direct debits are switched first, your salary is the last thing to be switched.
We transferred in October and got £100 (we live in Hull). That promotion ran from 9th October to 26 November 2006. It all went really smoothly except for our phone company who somehow changed our details & got the account number wrong - turned out ok tho. Also Clydesdale Financial Services (soon to appear on the VENT THREAD!!!! If they don't reply to my letter!!) Because they ignored the letter halifax sent and did not change my details. (Long story) They have now ignored the letter I sent them.
Anyway, I can't rate Halifax highly enough:T :T0 -

We waited about 3 months before the £100 came through even though they took 6 weeks to send us the list of direct debits. This was more the fault of our ex bank taking their time! They send the £100 based on the day you signed up & give it when the process is just about done0 -

Could you tell me if they automatically close the account you're switching from?

They do not have the authority to close your other account, nor move any funds from it
just direct debits and standing orders
oh and credits if you wish
I'm willing to transfer my bank account as I was looking fior a new joint account anyway, mainly for paying bills etc.
However I don't want my salary to be moved.
Is this possible?
Thanks0 -
