    Would I have to close my existing current account with another provider or could I keep that going and just transfer all my standing orders and direct debits etc?

    There's NO need to do that, as long as Halifax get your £1,000 monthly plus you swap your DD's. It's up to YOU to do whatever you want with your existing bank.

    So; Halifax said.

    As I opened account with them few days prior to offer( which they didnt tell me)I could close account and RE-Open to get my £100

    They said ring today to do this.?? and did what they said and

    SPoke several ppl, some said yes okay - then one said no computer will recognise you have had an account already and you wont get the £100.

    So they made me wait days to ring today and left me still unsure. Bit grieved.

    And I havent filled in my Transfer forms anyways yet. so confused and slightly cross.

    :confused:

    Hi danchloe,

    I too have had conflicting information from the HBoS call centre this morning. I was just about to go online and see if I can download the transfer forms, but you may be able to save me the trouble.

    Could you tell me if they automatically close the account you're switching from?

    The reason I'm asking is that I'd like to simply 'switch' a couple of SO's from my Nationwide FlexAccount, but would like to leave the FlexAccount open so I can continue to use it for overseas spending.

    Is there an option on the transfer form to request they DON'T close the other account?

    In a letter from Account Transfer Team;

    It goes on to say- for the process to work smoothly, it is important that YOU dont close your existing bank account before the transfer has been completed.

    Bank Transfer form says

    I/We authorise you to;

    Request a list of D/Debits, standing order bill payment /fund transfers. Aythorise cancellelation of SO,DD BP, fund transfers to the account.

    Contact employer -re regular credits.

    Contact DD companies REqusting DD payments collected

    Set up on Bank account- Standing order bill payments.

    No mention i can see of closing account.
    ((I always thought you could leave the account open,(say £1.) I will still have ISA in my Original Bank also- so dont see how i could close completely)).

    I am looking at Halifax Uk & Offshore account because will be travelling around -eventually relocating, later in the yr. And see their charges are free for transfers between UK & Offshore.

    Thanks danchloe,

    I've since found the online transfer form at http://www.halifax.co.uk/HICA/pdf/switchingAppForm.pdf

    I've also managed to get through to the Halifax's AATS team in Glasgow and what I'm proposing to do is perfectly possible.

    What happens is the Halifax write to you when the transfer is complete, enclosing a form for you to send to your 'old' provider to close the account - but ONLY IF YOU WANT TO.

    So...
    • Set up 2 x £10 SO's to a couple of my savings accounts on my otherwise dormant FlexAccount
    • Transfer these
    • Cycle £1,000 for a couple of months
    • Pocket £100
    • Close the Halifax account (or keep it - haven't decided yet)
    How easy is that?
