  • Thank you debtfreeoneday. Another early riser this morning.

It's been a long hard slog and the final months are proving to be the hardest but there is light at the end of the tunnel at last.

I have joined the frugal living challenge hoping to come down really hard on the last few debts and look forward to start saving. I'm becoming a little obsessed by money again so need to find sensible ways to cut cost rather than getting silly.

Here's to the next few months and year.

So Christmas is over and it's that funny bit waiting for new year. I'm usually very motivated during this time as it's a time I like to try and get things sorted but woke up today feeling grotty. I'm feeling a little better now so I'm going to set myself some little challenges for the rest of today.

The house is an absolute tip which is frustrating after spending so much time dehoarding during the last year. I read elsewhere on the board about now filling other peoples houses with clutter next Christmas so I plan to spend the year thinking about what others may need or use and make a few items. Hopefully next year I won't get so much stuff either. I'm not being ungrateful but I now have loads of stuff that won't get used rather than get frustrated it's bagged up to go to the local hospice charity shop where they can sell it to folks who want it and do some good with it.

I really want to learn something new next year. I said this this year but didn't get around to it. I have been sewing for years but never done any patchwork or quilting so may do that. I would like to do something new though. I have been thinking about learning a language and perhaps let the little one learn some words at the same time.

So now, today, well this afternoon. I think I may concentrate on the bedroom, it's a real state. I need to get my paperwork sorted which will lift a huge weight off my shoulders and also scattered around the bedroom.

Off for a little more MSE mooching then I will get started.

  • Learning something new next year sounds fun. I would love to learn a musical instrument or a skill x

  • My DH is very musical but it's a gene which has bypassed me. Perhaps the triangle maybe or those little blocks of wood we had at primary school.

  • Lol, I did do an instrument at school, but let it slip when boys were more interesting than music practice!

I was as rubbish with boys as I was with music. Not that I didn't moon over a couple.

  • A bit of a funny day today. I decided I needed to clear and tidy the bedroom as it was disappearing under a pile of clutter and stuff and washing which needed to be put away. I have always struggled with hoarding but managed to get it under better control in recent years getting rid of lots of stuff. So I got it looking in a reasonable state then decided to open the cupboard to find some paperwork..........

I thought I had sorted this months ago but found piles of it to deal with. Why oh why do I have problems with keeping and hoarding stuff.

So anyway buy the time I had dug all of the paperwork from under the other stuff ( think bags, old boots and shoes, coats, books, the list goes on and on) it was getting late.
So now tomorrow I have to face this but I intend to get it done.

I can't deal with all this stuff any longer. I have 7 days before going back to work and want the house looking very different before then. Tomorrow I will be shut in the bedroom until it is done and only then will I start on elsewhere.

I need to find a routine to keep on top of things. I have never been organised so a plan is about to form. Only when I get to the point of a clear and clean house can I start to make it look nice.

Thank goodness I brought some bin bags the other day. I feel that the local charity shop is going to be restocked again.

And I may find something to sell to help pay of the debts.

  • So only an hour and ten minutes away from next year, the year I finally become debt free.......I will, I will, I will.

I'm not usually a fan of new year and all the madness but this time it feels very different. I plan to make this the last year where I have any debt (well apart from the mortgage which I see as a different type of debt). I can't wait to get started and have been feeling a bit excited all day.

Once I'm debt free the mortgage overpayments will start.

This is going to be my year and I'm looking forward to it.

    Happy new year diary.

  • What a fantastic goal to have knowing you can achieve debt freeness this year - how exciting!

Good luck with the sorting, you will feel better when it's done.
