Lisa, well done for confronting your mum and getting things out in the open! I couldn't believe it when I read that she actually called social services, that is appalling. I hope that you are gradually regaining your strength and feeling a huge weight lifted off your shoulders.

Hi Lisa,

Only just caught up with the last few days, and what a couple of days they've been! You have been truly brave and inspirational to have faced up to your mum like this, as someone said earlier (can't remember who, sorry!) you have managed to break a vicious circle where there's been a bad motherhood role-model.

I realise there's still a long way for you and your family to go, but you've taken the first steps which are always the hardest!

Just had a catch up as I have not been around for a few days.

My goodness.

I had a churning tummy as I read the post about the evening with your parents when it all came out. I imagine it must have been absolutely excruciating. Oh my darling, I really feel for you, it's so awful to see people you love hurt by truths.

However it had to be done and when truths don't 'out', then no good comes of it and the outcomes are always worse.

Do whatever feels right for *you* about the cheque - and if that means not cashing it then, just explain to your Dad why so that his pride is not dented. As another DFW said, he knows what is right and he is trying to make amends. Oh bless him.

Honey, not only have you opened up Pandora's Box when it comes to changing your life (for the BETTER) you might just have kick started a better future for your Mum & Dad as this will force the issue of them sorting things out. So please do not let yourself feel guilty in any way about this all coming out. It HAD to come out so it could start to get better OK?

Wow. Just...wow. I can't believe everything that has happened all because of an overheard conversation.

If you believe that old saying "everything happens for a reason..." then this is definitely a story that backs it up!
