House Sales SURGE .....

The number of homes sold surged up by 4.5pc last month, helped by frozen interest rates and the "loosest mortgage lending conditions seen since the Lehman Brothers collapse".

I knew what I was witnessing - rapid property sales - wasn't an illusion!!!

And it's spread across the country too, not just in the rich South!!

Excellent news for the majority ... bad news for those STR's of course ..... but not many have sympathy for those who treat their home as an investment and making their families live in rented hell ...

Good news, time to get the Dom Perignon out tonight :j

I am trying to imagine what sort of person would crack open champagne on the announcement of pretty dull and irrelevant economic data. Who would do such a thing? My initial thoughts are that it would likely be restricted to the sort of folk who would register multiple accounts on an internet forum in order to talk to themselves in some sort of odd attempt to convince others that the housing market is in some kind of ultra-boom.

You are barking up the wrong tree I'm afraid. I don't do false user ID's on forums.
I also don't live in Bangkok now. Sorry to update you with bad news but I live in a cracking 5* condo looking out to sea.

Still, keep saving. You'll get out of the bedsit when you have enough council points.

Did you leave Rangsit Sibley? Serious question. Are you in Pattaya now?

If so, what happened to your job?

Yes, our house got really flooded bad. We actually had 3m of water inside at one point.

To be honest it's worked out ok for me. The company I work for gave employees an assistance package. We could relocate anywhere within an hour or so of the airport.

I chose Pattaya mainly because it's a lot foreign user friendly for work related stuff and I'm always traveling to Sattahip anyway.

Don't really like being here 24/7 especially at this time of year. I would agree with your views at the moment.

Just out of interest. The Thai companies we deal with are out of action until at least 2nd or 3rd quarter next year. Devastation.

I've seen so much hardship here over the last 2 months. Peoples lives and business's ruined. Put quite a few things into perspective really.

We got a lot of news over here about the floods. It looked terrible. My son's school raised quite a bit of money to help but it's nothing compared to what's needed.

A mate of mine in insurance reckons insured losses are > $10,000,000,000 and that uninsured losses will dwarf that.

The way it's been reported here it looks like people were just living in the flooded areas as they presumably either didn't have anywhere else to go or couldn't afford to get out.

Ive been backwards and forwards to Bkk over the last few months, and am always amazed at how resilient the place is. There was a stat in the Economist at the weekend that showed industrial output in Thailand is down 37% - it just shows how severe the impact of the flooding has been.

Luckily it's left my places untouched, but I know another guy who lived out not far from you at LamLukka whose place was similarly under a couple of meters of water. The idiot had no insurance.

Good to see that transaction volumes are rising robustly again, albeit from such a low base.

Looks like house prices will be flat for 2011. Rising volumes should set a nice basis for the property rising in 2012, particularly as consumer goods inflation falls away
