    NIE turned their power off
  • I heard another rumour last night that the Flagship Centre is going to be pulled down and turned into a Quality Inn.

This recession is unbelievable. I am 38 years old and I have never seen as many shops (many of them long established) close down.

Makes you wonder that in a couple of years time if the financial situtation improves, would there be big gaps in the market for new businesses to replace the closed ones.

Whilst on holiday in America a number of years ago, I visited a town centre somewhere in Florida. At that time, huge shopping centres were established on the outskirts of towns and cities (this was long before Bloomfields, etc..., had been built over here). The town centre was (no exageration) like a ghost town. Not one shop was open. Everything was boarded up. It was like a scene from some sort of post-apocalyptic movie.

    Are we next?
  • I would like to see the Spectator boarded up
  • ..... and now another long-established business, David Aumonier, is closing both his salons in Bangor and Belfast. Well sort of.... the Bangor salon is re-opening under his wife's name and the Belfast salon is re-opening under the current manager's name. Must be something to do with not being able to re-open a business under his own name if he is filing for bankruptcy.

Both Peacocks stores closing in Bangor, Flagship and Bloomfield http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-17126482

I was in Bangor this afternoon, even the coffee shops were empty, game over I think.

Latest I heard last night was that the lady who owns the Flagship is looking at building apartments on the site.
