Too many ring road shopping malls. Quite a few Landlords would accept short term leases as they are paying rates themselves on empty property.
The councils could help by having zero commercial rate areas in the centre of towns and villages and the DOE by having zones where there were no fees for commercial applications. Some applications can cost many thousands of pounds, hardly an incentive to set up a business.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -

I took a dander around Bangor on Saturday (yes I was bored) and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Very busy with shoppers on Main Street although High Street was looking depressing. Was in Bloomfields but missed Timpsons closing.
Well at least there's still lots of pubs to drown our sorrows in :beer:0 -
Oddly I find High Street less depressing, there's Empathy, there's Focus new opening, Sampsons is still there, the Chemists, Java, Replay, pubs/etc, some various independents. Main street is the death knell (bar TKmaxx which is actually getting a bit grotty)
Seeing Tkmaxx getting its delivery in the mornings is funny though. It's like watching someone get christmas presents from a senile (yet rich) relative.
