Hey up PAP, remember the bread making advice you dished out the other day? Well, I bought a mix, used lukewarm water and its come out rather nice although it rose too much, hit the roof and collapsed in. Question is though, when I do mi own mix tomorrow will it taste the same? Probably not. The only difference I can see to my normal would be to add some butter. Would you have any more top tips my lovely? Lenny

lenny, i never use mixes :o they dont go with the size of your tin (you have the same as mine) however if you use the manual that came with your breadmaker the biggest loaf will hit the top but it wont cave in, i rarely do a big loaf anyways but if you do dont be alarmed. I also tend to use the same yeast with the same flour (ie hovis flour and hovis yeast) imo they come out better, you will pay that tad bit more but its worth it.

wholemeal/granery bread... when you make this its says (havent got the book with me but...) for instance 3 3/4 cups of wholemenal flour/granery flour... now whenever you make these types of bread use some plain white, i usually do a cup and 1/4 using the example above. This makes the bread less stoggy/heavy and also makes it last longer.

pizza dough... one of my faves... do a test run of a plain one but to make chesse pizza base on the last mix (usually 40ish min in) add some grated cheese (one/two cups to taste) bake as usuall and mmm... better than pizza huts stuffed crusts.

fruit bread (etc)... in your recipie book there is a fruitbread/cake recipie, now i know this prob sounds silly but wash the fruit and then put into the fridge, when it beeps (to tell you to add the fruit) add it from the fridge... if you add it warm unwashed the fruit tends to 'run' and become hard (only fit for the birds) :rotfl:

thats about it lens, i have quite a few tips for each type of bread/cake/jam so it depends what you are making but please dont worry if you do it wrong, when i first got my machine i brought cheap asda flour and yeast and tryed different things (including my own recipies) and you get to feel whats right, i dont use my recipie book anymore and tend to do it as i feel... you will get used to it...

oh one more thing, you know the paddle in the machine, make sure you remove it before cutting your bread, mum made that error with mine so it was cut in half by my little brother, however morphy ridchards sent me a new one for £2.50 i think :T

  • oh hang on... in normal bread recipies (using the manual) they add sunflower oil rather than butter (helps it rise or something) however you do add melted butter elsewhere :) also i never add salt, imo it doesnt need it and its only a teaspoon so i never add it, its up to personal taste though :D

  • I am fed up of pleasing everyone... i have 3/4 targets that i want to do... most involving money and hopefully these will be done by 2010, since i have been saying no my family life has improved 10 fold and i have no problems here, yes i would like my own space every now and again but at the momment i believe if i move out i will just be forced into a life of debt, lifes better at the momment and i am even thinking of going abroud next year as planned...

hi all, just a large/good/maybe bad update from me... you may all think i am mad but please read my post above and then this...

The targets i wish to achive by 2010 are... 1) save 3 times my wages 2) take 3/4 months out and go touring 3) buy a car 4) save approx £3,000 per year. Now as i have stated up there, i am fed up of pleasing everyone and this is where most of you can stop reading as i know i will upset some of you

I have spoken to my driving instructor and he has commented about me not getting a car (he came into work to give me my new test date and one of my work collegues dropped it into conversation) and he has stated the obvious really... he didnt (yes i finally got it from him) put me in for my test as he thinks my confidance behind the wheel is non exsistant. Thats why he moved the test, not because he is a money grabbing teacher. Once he found out i wont be getting a car his words were... i will see you again when you buy a car, as he believes i will be back at square one once i stop driving  so i have found a car *hides from  posters* :rotfl: and it will cost me approx £450.00 so all my savings and some of this months too. Now this isnt set in stone and i may not get it but it is a real possiblity...

Now looking at figures... i pay £180.00 for driving lesons and £50 for the bus (total £230.00) per month... now the quotes with this car is very low, the lowest i have found so far so without putting aside money for my mot/repairs keeping the car on the road will cost approx £150.00~£160.00 now adding that to my soa and removing my lessons/bus fares i will save £70?! this means i will have approx (depening on what i save for mot/repairs) £370.00 a month to save and one of my targets would have been completed. if i dont get the car i will be able to save £480.00 per month.

Now i dont know if you are still reading but of you are good/bad idea... i know most of you wont agree but this will open up so many avenues including going on holiday, going touring sooner than planned, getting a better paid job further away from home/not on a bus route and having independance. So comment below... even if you think i am doing the wrong thing and never read this again i wont be offended.. oh and btw i wont get into debt to buy the car :)
