she is with swinton, however she has never ever changed company for 5 years. I have no idea of her premiums etc will get the info and search her for a cheaper quote maybe. I was thinking of first direct too, i know i will need to go with them myself when i get my own car (the no claims arnt transferable) but i guess thats a good way to do that? I am thinking £60 plus the odd £10 for petrol will be a lot cheaper than the £200 odd to keep a car on the road eh :rotfl:
got the pm btw0 -

Might be a good idea to look for new quotes then.... if ur Mum hasn't claimed in the last 5 years, she will probably get a really good deal with renewal.... U know all the comparison sites (I assume).... but also check out the Direct Line site, because they don't use any of the screen scrappers, and like I said before, ur no claims would count when u do get ur own car....

another vote for getting on your mum's insurance.... keeping your driving skills up is invaluable! Even if it's just once a week to help with shopping.
Is your mum's premium £60 a month, or is it £60pm to add you on.... ?
Definately worth shopping around at renewal time, penalties for changing outwith those times are pretty bad.....
remember to use quidco too, there are some amazing cashback offers on car insurance....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
sarah, mum has only claimed one when i was small because the windowscreen got smashed. She has been driving about 10 years i think. I will have to have a search around etc etc.
maz, i think she has to renew novemeber. The £60 would be what i would ahve to pay per month to be added to her insurance. If i find a better quote will she need to wait untill november then?0 -
yes, the penalty would probably be more than the cashback you got.
Even though the monthly saving would make it less overall if you got a good quote.
Quick call to the insurers would confirm, but so far from the renewal date i think it wouldn't be worthwhile right now.I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Well I'm biased and think you should come to Cornwall
Hope you're feeling better soon

thanks maz, i spoke to mum and she is going to give me her details etc to look it up. Even if i can find her a cheaper quote alone it would be better. The problem is she has been telling all the people she works with i am looking for a car  grrr :rotfl:
gem, in all honesty i will prob come down there purely for ease :rotfl: plus i know what i am getting with haven. Will book it in a few months though ~ read below why :rotfl:

right confessions ~ ummm i have just spent £24.69 + £12.50 + £5.43 on scrapping stuff and a toolopps sorry all... therefore before i spend any more of my saving cash i just transferred £100 into my locked savings account... this now leaves me after bills £41.75 till the 15th

i dont feel guilty for me but i feel a fraud (does that make sense?). You know when i go onto ia's diary or read a newbie thread (and try and give advice) and they are like in so much debt and i give advice then i swan off to the daily spends or on here and i say i have just spent £20 on paper its a bit shocking. However in my defence it was all reduced and i have also got a mixed box of stash that cost up to £40 for £10.
But i look at it this way that i am not in debt and i save and to be honest this is the first whole wage i have had in a long time (as i used to always pay for driving). But then i am way i am prob doing what they were doing 20~25 but with credit cards not real cash. So i guess there is nothing wrong with it but i still always have moozie sat on my sholder say 'do you need that?'. I guess its finding that balance but £150 is more than 10% of this month income so i guess thats ok?0 -
Balance is hard, it comes eventually. You don't have to feel guilty you have different circumstances.
Saving 10% of your income at in your 20s makes you a heck of a lot better off than most people in this country! No longer using this account for new posts from 20130
