  • sm i didnt think of that ~ huge thanks i shall check ~ i am not 100% on whgat to get or what i like but i shall see.

    eamd
    ~ thanks i will look into those sites. The problem comes i think when the cars i am apply for have no saftey features (central looking/imobalister) and also it will be parked on a main road notorius for car crime. I guess thats the name of the game though but i do need to shop around as i have only tryed confussed so far.

    gem ~ the classic car i would like is a fiat 500 (old style) but they are approx £3k plus and in no way will i afford those.

    rog ~ no road tax sounds bliss ~ you never know i may not get my fiat but i could get another older one.

    ~~~~~
    well i am back in debt :cry: but actually i am quite happy about it :rotfl: i think the thing that pushed it for me was today waiting 45min for a bus :mad: Searching all avenues and phoning my bank the best way was the 0% overdraft as getting a loan up to £1k would have been 20% apr. So after speaking on the phone they were willing to give me £7k ~ thats nearly 3/4 of what i earn a year!!! you can guess i told them no :rotfl: in the end i applyed online and have a overdraft of £1,700 untill 20/01/2009 so i need to make £141 per month to pay it back. As you can guess the superpaps savings will go on the back burner for a little while but i guess freedom/independance is of higher value to me (ie not relying on mum).
    Just working out a repayments/budget thingie but i am thinking if i spend say £700~£900 on a car maybe i can pay the insurance outright and then save for the following year? finally the last question is what car? I cant find any micras anywhere except that cheap one and i know of any other little runnaround cars avalible? i guess i will have to leave it to someone who know what they are doing :rotfl:
    now i am off to sort out budgtes etc? :rotfl:
    jet see the job thing i think capped it off. Only the otherday i saw a job (now closed :mad:) in a different part of town and it was ideal ~ but i didnt have a car. I guess this makes it easier too as better job may = more money :j just sorting out budegts and stuff to see how it goes.
    Thinking about what gem said i have found online a lovely white 1.2 clio L reg looks really good describtion its more than i wanted to spend ~ £895 but teh insurance is the same etc etc. With regards to the fire and theft ins it would knock £300 off. Unsure of what to do with that? especc if i get this more expensive car?
    Also not sounding daft but if i have an accident what happens? What deatils do i have to give the other people? I know its stupid but mum has never told me and she hasnt had a crash.
    You dont have to buy the car this week do u?
    Keep looking & see what else is available.
    I would go for a micra or a Toyota startet(think it was?before the Yaris)
    Dont rush into this as you dont want to make an expensive mistake.HTH
  • so ultimate budget ~
    Income
    £700.00 per month (worse case)
    Essentials
    £100.00 ~ mum/rent
    £65.00 ~ BT
    £11.00 ~ house insurance
    Savings
    £25.00 ~ Halifax ~ locked
    £25.00 ~ Halifax ~ web saver
    Extras
    £20.00 ~ scrap
    £9.72 ~ magazine subs ~ every 3 months jan/apr/jul/oct
    Car
    £50.00 ~ petrol
    £120.00 ~ car savings (see below)
    Outgoings
    = £425.72
    Leaving = £274.28
    £141.00 ~ Overdraft repayments
    £133.28 ~ me money
    ~~~~~

    Car savings £1,440 for ~
    £750.00 ~ insurance
    £50.00 ~ mot
    £115.00 ~ car tax
    £33.00 ~ rac breakdown cover
    £120.00 ~ car service
    £60.00 ~ oil/lights/wiper blades etc etc
    Total = £1,128

    ~~~~
    If going ahead and spending say £900 on a car ~ using the £1,700 overdraft + £150 (ish) left this month depending on amount spent at the meet etc…
    £900.00 ~ car
    £750.00 ~ insurance fully comp (outright)
    £33.00 ~ rac (will look for cheaper)
    £50.00 ~ petrol (as a test)
    Total = £1,733
    so what do you think? i dont think that is overall too bad myself i still ahve over £100 to spend on myself to include weekly spends but i guess if i am going for work to home tehre will be no chances to walk past shops etc. Obviously if i get ebaying like crazy and my card busniess picks up i will be able to pay back all the o/d within the year and then its done.
    The only real pitfalls i can see in this is me having a major accident and then not having a car etc but i am 65% sure that will not happen. Or i lose my job ~ again i am sure that wont happen either :D
    If you have an accident(which u wont) you give your own details and insurance details,dont admit liability.Was advised good idea to keep disposible camera in car but with camera phones that will be less relevant.HTH
    Opps the problem is everyone is saying things like that about the micra :think: I wont be getting one till at least the first weekend in feb as i have no ways of going to garages. I have no idea what i will end up with but i am just testing the water with regards to quotes etc. I am deffo not rushing and it could be a month before i get one just having a peek. The problem is and this isnt a bad thing but every fiesta/micra/smal car i have seen so far has been modified ~ and i hate with a passion modified cars. blacked out windows/low floors/'angel eyes' ~ i could go on :rotfl:i just dont 'get it' so i will no doubt end up in a garage with some old grannys car but that suits me down to the ground :D
    Hey Pap,
    I bought my Vauxhall Corsa for £900, and it's a lovely car to drive, great little runner.
    I didn't want to buy anything too expensive as it was my first car, so my 'practice' one, I've had one accident (drove into a parked bus:o ) and scraped a few walls. But touch wood, nothing this year.
    If you have an accident you should give the other driver your name, address & insurance comp name, and ring your insurance place asap. Take photos if you can, (mobiles great for this).
    You will need to put money aside for maintainance, cars will eat money. There is insurance & tax, plus petrol and MOT's. Mine has also needed a new radiator, 2 new batteries and this week a new alternator!
    Also, if you're just buying a run around, you won't really need full comp. 3rd party, fire & theft should do.
