The general rule of thumb for baby weight gain is half a pound a week for the last month or so - so my first two would have been 9lbers even if born on date - so your Dr was right with his comment, lol

They do say (although obviously I don't have a small one to compare experiences) that bigger babies are easier to deliver - more to physically push against, and gravity tends to have a stronger effect. I will say that mine weren't as hard as I'd been led to believe they would be.

Good luck - they left me alone as my lot were natural deliveries, but I know those who have previously had sections due to size are generally closely monitored towards the end anyway.

I am currently 25 wks PG and have had sickness all day every day since 5 weeks. I have been diagnosed with whats called Hyperemisis and have been on anti nausea tablets from my GP. I also had it with DD1. It is quite rare but it makes life unbearable, just wanted to let any ladies who feel that what they have is more than 'morning sickness' that sometimes it is more! Unfortunately the tablets dont help withthe nausea but they do reduce actual vomitting for me so I dont end up dehydrated and on a drip.
http://www.helpher.org/ will tell you more or feel free to pm me if you have any Q's.

There are studies that suggest a negative corolation between pregnancy sickness and pregnancy loss. In other words, you are less likely to miscarry if you are very sick. Nothing is a guarantee but people will often tell you it's a good sign.

There is no explaining to people who have not experienced this how debilitating it is. Like abijanzo, I have had hyperemesis all the way through both of my full term pregnancies. If you are so sick that you are getting dehydrated, are throwing up blood, are losing a lot of weight or simply can't keep anything down, go to the doctor. I have lost count of the amount of times I've been on a drip because it's got out of hand and it is bad for you and the baby for it to get to that stage.

There is also a difference between feeling nauseous all the time and constantly feeling like you are about to be sick, even if you just have been. There are things that can be done. People always told me to eat dry crackers and other things that worked for them that made no impact on me. They mean well but really if it's that bad nothing much helps.

You could try accupuncture, sea sickness bands for your wrists, reflexology etc etc with the support of your GP but whatever you do get medical advice.

If you have hyperemesis, don't leave it untreated as it can be VERY dangerous.

Which pills are you on, abi? Are you getting any side effects? I used to fall asleep all the time on promethazine and then they stopped working. I'm on cyclazine now and they are keeping it at bay.

Hi my daughter is now 8 weeks old and the sickness seems like an eternity ago. I was very very very sick till about 23 weeks and then I still threw up every few days right up to the end. I've tried allsorts.

I ate so much ginger in my first pregnancy that I haven't touched it since.

Around ten weeks I had six weeks worth of acupuncture. The first few sessions were amazing with a big capital A. I felt wonderful especially the day after. However the effect didn't last very long and after a few weeks it didn't work at all.
I tried reflexology with my first pregnancy and didn't notice a thing.
I also tried homeopathy. Some people do benefit from this.

I wore sea bands constantly for 6 months - they did help

My friend swears by glucose tablets. Morning sickness can be related to your blood sugar levels which is why they tell you eat little and often. She finds that when she starts to feel a bit queasy she sucks a dextose tablet. SHe reckons they work a treat. The tip came too late for me to tell you whether it makes any difference for me.

One of the things that helped was thinking that in a few months it will ease - obviously it never went away completely as I was still being sick at the end but it did ease.

Good Luck you have my sympathy Hope you find something that works. Give the glucose tablets a whirl and let me know if they help .

  • https://www.hyperemesis.org.uk/ has good advice.
i also was hositalised due to severe morning sickness.
my only tip is if smells set you off carry a tissue with a strong good smell on it.( I used lemon oil or olbas oil) obviously check that anything you use is safe during pregnancy.
btw my son was 9lb 1oz three weeks early, consultant insisted we bring him out via the sunroof as he had shoulders like a rugby player.
  • Our dates must be spot on, I too am 8 weeks, and feeling dreadful for the last 3 weeks.

I find that if I push myself to get into every day tasks I start to feel better, but it can take me the entire day to get the energy to even try it. I'm not sure if it is the sheer sleepiness I am going through or the 24 hour feeling of sickness that is the worse.

For me the only things that sometimes work are the sea bands (remember to fit it absolutely accurately, and if it hurts they aren't in the right place) you should be able to wear them all day with out remembering they are there. If you have a good feel (three fingers width down from your first crease in your wrist you can then feel about for two hard lines running from your arm to wrist. Position the bump of the band in between those two lines). Sorry to sound patronising if that is what you are already doing.

I have some twinings tea bags which are ginger and lemon I know you say you hate ginger, but I am the same as you in that ginger nuts are the only ginger thing I can stomach, yet those tea bags aren't offensive in the slightest and really have helped.

I think from memory of my first pregnancy, 3 years ago I had similar feelings about the same time, except sitting behind a desk at work then and trying to keep up with a toddler and part time working now.

Good luck with it all. Are you booked in for your midwife appointment yet, apparently they see you a lot sooner now and you get a scan in the next few weeks.

PM if you want a chat.

    Hi,

I found Tesco's cloudy lemonade and sucking sour sweets like sherbet lemons helped. Hopefully it will pass. With DD I had one day of sickness but with ds I suffered 10 weeks of it.

    Good luck
