Hi All
Wondered if anyone new of any cures to keep sickness in early pregnancy at bay. I am pregnant with my second child and am 8 weeks today but have started feeling like poo since Monday, the first part of the week i felt fine all day then at 8pm the sick feeling would start and i would have my head over the toilet for an hour, then the last part of this week i have felt sick and have been sick several times both days, the feeling is horrible. I did have it with my first pregnancy but that was nearly 6 years ago now and its harder this time around as i have to care for my son whilst im feeling like poo! I am able to eat but its got to a stage where i dont really fancy anything im eating but im making myself eat little and often and im drinking enough liquid so im not in danger of being dehydrated or anything just hate the sick feeling!!
I have tried ginger biscuits (thats the only thing i can eat with resembles ginger as i hate the stuff), Seabands, dried toast.
If anyone has anyone has any ideas of what i can do to keep my sickness at bay or what helped you throughout the dreaded 3 months i would appreciate your responses...
Thanks so much

I found rice cakes avery half hour or so seemed to be about the best, failing that sniffing a lemon took the edge off it, but nothing really cured it:p I spent the first 16 weeks basically in a bathroom:rolleyes: Hope it gets better fro you soon;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

so sorry it really is miserable - I just did my first food shop today without having to hold my breath the whole way round and run to the toilets, so I sympathise. I found the only thing that worked was eating little and often and mainly really bland carbs (so much toast I think baby will look like a piece of dough) and even then it'd be terrible if I got the timing wrong. I didn't find anything magical to stop it or ease it I'm afraid. Apparently sniffing a lemon is supposed to help but I couldn't bear anything citrus. Some people swear by ginger tea.0

ted_ted wrote:It is known that ginger is very good for morning sickness/anytime sickness keep some ginger biscuits nearby and grap one when need be. Burn ginger aromatherapy oil when need be also buy fresh ginger and drink as a tea. I have done all of these during my bouts of sickness and swear by them all. Good luck for a happy safe pregency.
Erm...did you not bother to read the OP's post or are you just insensitive? If she hates ginger then the smell/taste of it will not make her feel any better...believe me! And even if you do like it, it doesn't necessarly work!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I'm not keen on ginger biscuits, but found eating digestive biscuits often helped. If I felt nauseous, nibbling a couple of biscuits and just putting something on my stomach helped.
If you think you are going to be sick though, it's best just to get it up and out! If you try and stop it, you just feel yukky for longer.
I felt really sickly for the first 3 months, but once I got to 14 weeks I felt better. Hope it wears off in time for you too. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Aw Sammie , you poor thing ,I remember having 9 months of sickness all day with my first child( it sort of went come the evening and this was the only time I even felt like eating).
However when I became pregnant with DD2 I decided to really research possible cures........and I found one Spearmint oil .....a couple of drops on a hankie put under your pillow at night .
Please though, do check with your midwife before using any aromatherapy oils during pregnancy....Even though spearmint oil is one the "safe oils" to use during pregnancy I still think it's always best to err on the side of caution when pregnant.
All the best of luck to you Sammie ,I really do hope you manage to find something that works for you ........I remember my "morning" sickness all too well

Ginger never worked for me - in fact when I did try it, it made me worse, lol.
With eldest, the sickness was a virtual nil-by-mouth situation for the first trimester. When I could eat and drink, it was flat lemonade (but for some reason only RWhites), Hula Hoops and wholemeal bread and dairylea sandwiches. I managed to progress to Birds Eye Peas after a while, but that was it for quite a time.
With no.2, the sickness wasn't quite as bad, but I still had a period where I could barely eat - with him, Copella Apple and Elderflower juice, instant mash mixed with Phily, and fizzy sweets (sherbet lemons and the such) did the trick.
I was lucky with youngest son in that I did eat all the way through - but it was toast with marmite and lemon sorbet every day for a few weeks, lol.
You've just got to keep trying things - but bland carbs and salty foods do seem to be a recurring theme whenever I read threads like these.
Good luck - hope it's over soon for you so you can enjoy the next few monthsDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
I feel for you - it's the most miserable experience. With my first I just felt sick, but didn't throw up. I found eating apples all day helped. But with the second it was all day sickness.
With the second, because of its strong taste, I found dandelion and burdock helped - we would order a 12 bottle crate at a time. As Justie said, carbs seemed to work sometimes - for me it was steamed jam pudding. Also, I know it sounds ridiculous but sniffing red Lifebuoy soap also helped (?!) but I don't know if they still sell it.
I hope you find something soon which makes life easier for you.
Good luck.0 -
Try Almonds.... I always had terrible sickness in the evenings (felt fab in the mornings) it felt like I was onboard a ship_pale_ but eating Almonds made me feel tonnes better (good for you too!).
Hope it passes soon!0 -
Much sympathy! Felt terrible with my second. Spent most of the day in the bathroom. Could only manage toast, Special K (!) and chicken soup. Problem was I became anaemic at 15 weeks due to not being able to eat enough iron rich foods. Might be worth speaking to your midwife about vitamin supplements if you are really struggling.
The only thing that helped me was sucking Refresher sweets due to the fizzy taste.
Hope you feel better soon.0
