Son removes his pyjamas and nappy in bed

Please can anyone advise our son (3) goes to bed at night with pyjamas, body suit and nappy on, Yet every night removes it all. If we are able to catch him we can put it all back on whilst he is still asleep. If not then he wets and soils the bed. We have tried all in one sleep suits to no avail he still continues to do it. I have just gone up yet again an hour after he fell asleep and all clothes and nappy are off, he is naked. Luckily managed to get to him before he had soiled. No doubt by the morning it will all be off again.

The amount of washing of bedding etc I have to do is really getting to me now. And I am at my wits end as to what to do, please does anyone else have this problem and any advice please.

;)

our 2 year old goes to bed in a sleeping bag, arms are free, but body is zipped up

Would that work? cant say we have had that problem in bed though, during the day she likes to shoe off her assets to the world
  • He also chucks all the bedding off and is normally naked in bed with no bed sheets. Hubbie is off upstairs again now to check his attire is all still in tact !!

this is why we got a sleeping bag, she use to kick her covers off and end up freezing, which woke her up

the tantrums at 3am every night were just too much. Since day 1 off the sleeping bag, shes slept straight through

I was having very similar problems early last year and these were recommended to me.

We have finally got past the removing clothes and nappies and pulling himself out of the nappy and the frequent washing of bedlinen but my lad still overheats even though we have the heating on low (his room is seldom above 15C), we put him in cotton pyjamas and only a 4.5 tog duvet.

We've since discovered DS2 has sensory processing dysfunction and I think most of the professionals involved with him now expect an ASD diagnosis, I'm not suggesting that this is likely in your case but it's worth raising the problems with your GP and seeing if there is an underlying factor at work, in our case the key professional to starting to get an understanding of his behaviour was an Occupational Therapist and, since then the Educational Psychologist. Unfortunately our HV, Paediatrician and the Early Years team didn't have a clue and so weren't particularly helpful.

During the night the heating goes off and it gets really cold - he wakes up freezing cold, sodden as he has weed and lied in it and his feet are freezing i dont imagine he is hot but thanks. he just doesnt seem to like wearing a nappy at night but as he is not toilet trained and wont be for a while yet he has to continue to wear them

  • Hi, have you started toilet training him in the day yet? It might be an idea to start trying (if you've not already) and see if he takes to that in the daytime. Once he gets the hang of it in the day, it might transfer easier to the night.

I may get jumped on for this - I may have missed something..........but at age three isnt he potty or toilet trained yet?
are you in the process of toilet/potty training and just dont think he is 'ready' to go through the night?
have you tried putting a potty by the bed and making sure he understands 'where the potty is' and leaving enough light for him to see it?
why do you think he wont be potty/toilet trained yet? not getting at you hun - just a bit puzzled?

We are in the process of adopting our son and he has global development delay by 1 year so we dont envisage being able to toilet train him yet he doesnt speak and doesnt really understand the process of a potty, we have tried but he isnt interested we were intending to try again in the summer.
