  • Hi guys, I thought I signed up for this challenge at the start, but I must have been mistaken! I have been following along with what you guys are up to every day, and playing along though, and I currently have 286.92 + 62.78 from eBay that I'm just waiting on clearing in my bank!

I'm so happy I started this on here, I've never been able to save away so much in less than a month! I put up a nail polish I have never used that is now discontinued on eBay, and someone bought it for £30 + £2 p&p :eek::eek: It cost me £2.99!

My wonderful boyfriend surprised me with a trip to New York as my Christmas present, so I'm saving for that trip in June!

I can't believe how exciting saving money is!

Lotsaluck - just to add to what everyone else has said, I don't think the point of this challenge is to have a savings account with £2012 in it at the end of the year - not for everyone anyway. If being able to find that extra 'income' from somewhere means that you can pay the bills without worry then so be it - you've saved yourself the worry.

Like metalfirecracker, I'm also off to NY this year so hopefully this challenge will mean I have some spending money without having to worry about where it's going to come from...

I must get ebaying! I'm hoping to sell my bridesmaid dress from December (it's still £95 in Debs) but don't want to do it too soon as it seems a bit rude as I didn't pay for it. I think the bride was hoping we'd be able to wear them again as they're knee length and not obviously weddingy but it's not my style and isn't the best fit either. What's the etiquette on this kind of thing?!

Also, after reading pdnw's post I think I might try to save some of my wages each month as the target may be a bit unrealistic if I'm relying on 'extra' money. Saving £80 a month would make £960 - just under half the total, so yes - that's my plan :)

Tete - if the bride is happy for you to keep it at no expense to yourself, you're entitled to do as you want with the dress, she's had her use from it. I think soon would be a good time to sell if you're planning on listing it as a bridesmaid dress. If you're thinking of selling it as a prom dress maybe wait til spring/early summer. I wasn't upset when my bridesmaid sold her outfit soon after my wedding, she could've worn it again but tbh she never goes anywhere that dressy, the same reason I sold my Debs bridesmaid dress from my friend's wedding.
  • That's what I'm wondering HM - if someone wants it as a bridesmaid dress they'll be looking now for summer, but for proms or wedding guests it'll be closer to the time. Not sure what to do! The bride hasn't said anything about it and I don't like to ask! Would hate to sell it and then have her ask for it

Don't feel as if I am 'earning ' any extra yet. Will have to wait till surveys payout to me. Still it helps to come on here and see how everyone is doing. I don't feel as tho I am doing it on my own!:)

    :hello:
  • Hi I haven't been around on MSE for a while but really need to get back into budgeting and saving to make some of our dreams a reality.

I am a mum of two, both now at school and a fanatical crafter. I would like to save and make some cash over this year to finance a family holiday abroad.

So far this month we have been selling through EBay and also carboot pages on facebook which has been really successful. We have also cut Sky down to the bare minimum (saving £31.25) which comes into effect next month and cutting out our Saturday night takeaway (£60 a month). Also really need to cut our food shopping down by doing more homebaking and growing our own veggies and salad this year. So lots to do!

It's been a tight and long month since Christmas so the savings this month will just be from the items we've sold and then next month it will really get going, except for the MOT and buying my son a big boy bed - why is there always something you have to spend on? ggrrr

    Wish me luck :)

  • Few more bits to add, and also it's FREE LISTING again on ebay this weekend, so will relist some of the stuff I didn't sell last time around!

    Another £19.88 from ebay sales
    £3.19 from topcashback

If you divide £2012 into monthly amounts, we should be hitting £167.66 per month, so I'm almost there for this January :D
